TLDR: The sandwich I had was pretty good, but for one meal, it was really expensive, also the line to order the food and the wait to get your food were just too long for me. I wouldn't come back unless the wait time between waiting to order my food and the time that I get my food was under 15 minutes.
With the MGM resort and casino open at the national harbor it was only natural for my boyfriend and I to go and check out what the hype was all about. After walking around the MGM, we finally spotted the cafeteria and were looking around to see what looked good to eat. Then this place caught my eye. The line for Pappas never seemed to die down and there were a lot of people who were standing around with a buzzer. So I bought into the hype and stood in line to order. I had bought the state sandwich was was a big mound of crab cake that had been broiled and put on a brioche bun with mayo, shredded lettuce, and tomatoes. It also came with fries, coleslaw, and your choice of sauce. I personally like the rouille which is a tartar sauce mixed with ketchup to get that red/pink hue. By the time I got the food, I was starving and just ate the sandwich, and forgot to take a picture till I was halfway done eating it. They charged for extra sauce so my ending total came out to be $22, which is really expensive for lunch. The price point may be due to the fact that it's in the MGM so you would expect a meal to be expensive, as well as opening weekend, the lines were expected to be super long too. So unless they were the only food place open, the line and wait time were s and I was super hungry, I won't be...
Read moreI would give a negative star if this was an option. I sent Christmas gifts over the holidays to my out-of-town family. I spent over $600 in Pappas crab dinners. My mom sent me a text message thanking me for the thought but said that all of the plastic containers were busted not only in her dinner box but also my sisters box was busted and containers inside and the crabmeat was full of plastic pieces. When I called the company they said that without photos they would not be able to reimburse me. It has been a plethora of emails trying to sort out who is responsible. The company is a headache to deal with. Pappas crabcakes does not want to take responsibility for packaging. Pappas crabcakes does not want to take responsibility for shipping. Pappas crabcakes will not reimburse you nor take responsibility for any action. They will gladly take your money and you suffer the consequences. When I asked about moving forward not that I will ever contribute to the company again I suggested they use a better shipping company at $50 for each box I paid $150 in total for damaged product. They replied they use UPS which is a reputable and responsible company. I guess that was $600 dollars down the drain. Warning DO NOT use this company! They also have a 1800 number of which no one answers and the mailbox is...
Read moreThis place doesn't seem like it would have the best crabcakes a native Marylander could get, but it's surprisingly true. The chunks of jumbo lump crab are mysteriously held together with less filler or binder than seems possible. Taste is excellent, price is reasonable (20 for sandwich on a wonderful soft brioche bun, not too heavily seasoned old bay fries, sauce, tomato/lettuce and a little delicious coleslaw) and they have several good beers to choose from. Don't know if I'll ever try the other food options in the casino now, after having this it is something I crave to repeat!
Tonight was my second time and the food was excellent again. After having crabcakes in many current and former Maryland restaurants, from shacks to fine dining, over almost four decades- This place has the best I've tasted and at one of the lowest prices. Definitely worth trying, don't be put off by its humble food court location! If there is a line, just know it's worth...
