Beautiful and touching! I highly recommend this experience. I love this! When Miss Betty sang the Spiritual “Wade in the Water” I had tears in my eyes. This is an amazing and inspirational story of a black woman, aged 24 in 1909, who convinced the local powerful business man to build a hotel for her. She signed her dead husband’s name because women could not enter contracts in 1909, and she owned and operated this fabulous hotel for “colored” people to find safety when traveling from New Orleans to Chicago. Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Ike and Tina Turner, James Brown, Thurgood Marshall, Ray Charles, John Coltrane, the list goes on and on - and Miss Betty, aka Miss Maddie, tells the story in a way that brings tears to your eyes and joy to your heart. Can I give this 6 stars? I wish I could!

Now, this is #history 🙏🏽🙌🥰 How often do you get to stay at a historical African American Museum/Hotel? Well, now I can officially say that I did!! Our ancestral history is long and strong. They comforted and watched over me last night. There was a feeling of peace, home, and comfort at the Museum/Hotel, and I thank God for it. Thank you, #God, for introducing me over the phone to Ms. Betty Dobson, who shared her over 20+ years of the hotel knowledge with me. This is #Paducah #Kentucky 's "Eighth of August #Emancipation Celebration," others call it #Juneteenth I will never forget what God has done, is doing, and will continue to do for me in my life. I am a child of God! 💕🙏🏽🙌🥰😄

As history goes The Hotel Metropolitan was the only hotel in Paducah, KY. where African-Americans could come and get the dust of the road off of them, and a great night of rest in the Jim Crow South. Metropolitan has played host to the least of these, and some of the greatest VIPs in; music, science, art, civil rights and the humanities from Jim Crow on. Step back in time to a nearly long gone era in our great nation's history. Though the road is long and winding the Hotel Metropolitan and History herself is always ready to; receive you, receive your fellow travelers and the passersby!

Betty is a dishonest, crooked person. My husband and I own a tree service and got a call from Betty some time ago to look at a project at the hotel. Before looking at the job, she gave us a tour of each room. The place was amazing and Betty seemed amazing. We discussed the history of the hotel, bonded over both being born again believers and just really had a pleasant time with her. We agreed to the project discussed and she was very excited to have the place cleaned up. After completing the project, I called to schedule a time for her and I to look everything over to make sure the work suited her and we didn’t miss anything. We agreed on a time to meet and I waited there at the hotel for over an hour for her to show up. She did not, so I left her invoice in the mailbox. I sent her a txt (because she wouldn’t answer the phone) telling her where the invoice was and that I would expect the check in the mail within a week. She called 3 weeks later and told me she never agreed to having the work done????? I sure didn’t feel like going to court and doing all that (looking back I should have) so I got the idea to txt her and tell her if she would pay half she would never hear from me again. She responded within 5 mins letting me know the check was under her Matt. She is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Who knows if BB King really stayed there. You can’t believe a word she says. Betty still owes me over $2,000 , but she’ll never hear a peep from me because THATS WHAT WE AGREED TO. I’ve heard SEVERAL identical stories from other contractors dealing with her. It’s really a shame. That place was so interesting. I had no idea we had a place like that in Paducah. Shame...

Four of us went to their fish dinner celebrating the 8th of August. We called in advance & left our info to make reservations on their phone voice mail. We asked for call backs & never got any. We arrived at 12 noon & seated our selves. We took the last seats available. Their dining area is very small. Only about 4 to 5 tables are in the dining room. We stood in line & placed our orders for our dinners at 12:10 pm. We were given our food & drinks at 1:40 pm. We were the very last people to receive our food. By the time any of us in the dining room received our food they were completely out of white beans, slaw, hush puppies. We each received 2 pieces of fish & a cold hard piece of cornbread with water or tea. We paid $15 dollars for our dinner. I realize this is a fund raiser which is why we went. We left very disappointed & frustrated. No apologies or partial refunds were offered. Where did all the time & food go to? We saw a continuous line of to go dinners through out this entire time we were there. My opinion is you serve the people who actually came in person to eat first. It was very frustrating to see all those dinners be picked up for over an hour while we were sitting there without any drinks. I gave a lot of thought to giving my opinion regarding this dinner, because I didn’t want to...

My husband and I travel extensively throughout the United States and Canada, and this is by far one of the best museum tours we have taken. Our tour guide, Betty Dobson, protrayed Maggie Steed, the owner and operator of the Metropolitan Hotel founded in 1908. Ms Dobson was an incredible actress and brought to life this important landmark in Paducah. Paducah has many interesting things to do, but one should not miss visiting the Metropolitan Museum. One must call to make reservations, but the museum is very accommodating if one calls ahead. There is no entrance fee. This hotel was in the "Green Book" and hosted many black celebrities until the 1977s. To get a glimpse into the rooms that were rented by such people as Tina Turner, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Jesse Owens, Ray Charles was quite...
