Today, I received the "best customer service" in my entire life at DSW, located in Paramus, NJ. To make it short, I was at the register, trying to order 2 shoes with my size which they didn't have, and I had $100 gift VISA card. The problem was that the register won't recognize this gift card. An associate helped me at first and when it got complicated, a manager name "Bari" came and started helping me out. She was phenomenal. She tried three ways (trying to run it as gift card, visa card, and as debit card) and it didn't work. But! we found a way and it was to buy DSW gift card with that gift VISA card and use it for my final transaction. And everything worked out perfectly.
I am blown away by FOUR qualities that Bari had.
Excellent Attitude She was NOT rolling her eyes and passive aggressively sent a signal like, "Why did you come to our store with this card, I hate you!!" She was genuinely there to help me and work this out.
Excellent Communication Skill Whenever she did something, she always let me know and what she is trying and why she is trying what she is trying.
Excellent Managing Even when she was helping me, she was "managing" the entire store through the earphone she had. She was giving orders to other associates in the store and directing them what to do. And she did that to the point it would not bother my transaction.
Excellent Work She really knew how to work the register system. Let's be real. Part of the customer service is being nice but what good is it if the service doesn't get anything done? Bari was very smart and at the end, I was able to put an order for my two shoes and use that $100 gift VISA card. AND, the manager gave me 10% additional discount for the time I waited.

I ordered a pair of shoes online and was told they will be ready given 4 hours. I wondered if I could receive them an hour early so I called the store and they said they have to wait for the order to come through their system but they can place them on hold for me. By the time I picked them up, they said it should show up in their system. Went 3 hours later and the shoes were on hold but nothing in their system, but I had proof of my purchase online and I don’t see any problem with them handing the shoes and as soon as the order comes through, they can mark that I picked them up. Given that I couldn’t cancel the order anymore since it was in process so i can’t be shady about this, but they told me to come back their next business day... Monday. Before the night ends I get an email saying they canceled my order. I call on Monday to ask what happened.. Why would they cancel my order? They told me they must not have the shoes if it got canceled m. I said of course the store has the shoes if I saw them with my own eyes when they put them on hold for me. They said they couldn’t find those shoes anywhere and when I go to the store in person that same day, they are literally sitting in the section where they are supposed to be. Read moreI recently visited the Rt 17 store in Paramus, NJ and was absolutely disgusted. The visual asthetic of a store draws you in and you want to spend. This store was so disheveled and nasty that I walked out after 10 minutes. At 4 PM on a Tuesday, it looked like a hurricane had blown through it. I didn’t pass one aisle that didn’t look like an obstacle course on the ground level floor! Shoes, boxes, and papers were every where! I decided to go upstairs to look through the markdown area. The elevator was raggedy and had oily fingerprints all over its dirty interior. Upstairs was not as bad as downstairs. I then went into the bathroom and it was indescribably filthy! (I can’t believe what supposedly CIVILIZED humans are capable of). At that point, I was ready to leave!! I would have alerted the staff to the bathroom situation, but nobody was on the “floor” and the 5 persons behind the cashier’s counter were all attending to the paying patrons. The unfortunate thing is that this is not the first time that this location has looked like this!! The sales associates have ALWAYS been polite, friendly, and helpful and the inventory is pretty good. I usually find something I like to purchase.
