I was drawn to visit here after reading the historical novel, Massacre At Fall Creek, which tells the tale of the massacre in 1824 of nine Native Americans by four white settlers. They were tried by a jury, and three were hanged. A marker denotes the execution spot (visitors must allow for the mistaken use of "hung" in place of hang). It is a peaceful and serene park. I hope to return and visit the Historic Museum, which at least for now has limited hours on Saturdays. A playground renovation is scheduled for completion soon.
