Palafox Pier is a cute little cul-de-sac that dead ends right into Pensacola Bay off Palafox Street in downtown Pensacola. It features a statue of Tristan de Luna and two other historical placards depicting the history of the early settlement of Pensacola, a splash pad for young children, two restaurants (Jaco's which is more formal sit down dining and the Chat and Chew which is an order and pick up window) and plenty of park benches where one can relax and enjoy the view across the water to Gulf Breeze and Pensacola Beach. Pigeons, seagulls and pelicans absolutely love this area and many people feed them here, so the only drawback is that bird feces abound. A large Christmas tree is set up and beautifully lit here every year between November and January. There is usually some sort of interesting ship docked just off to the left in front of the Yacht Club as well, be it an industrial pipe layer or an exhibit of an old fashioned tall ship. We were lucky enough to get a chance to see the tall ship Lynx from Portsmouth, RI set sail on our last visit to Palafox Pier. Locals often fish from the end of the pier and it's a well loved lunch break spot or place to take the kids to run around in a contained area, feed the birds, or play in the splash pad...
Read moreWent to this pier for first time today with live shrimp from outcast baits. Great people at outcast. This is a nice pier except for the garbage people leave. They had to be in the 30-50 lb range. Quite large and they were just under the surface. Nothing else bit except pinfish. Going to try and sneak an hour or two tomorrow before having to pack up. Full...
