This organization puts politics and activism over faith. Their borderline agnostic/ atheist self-proclaimed minister rejects most core beliefs of Christianity. He also openly mocks Christian beliefs on resurrection, and even said he's going to hell based on what Christianity has been since it's origin.
He does not believe in a God, he believes in a philosophical, collective good and for him God is just merely symbolic, not literal. So yes, this is a church where you can not believe in God. Which defeats the whole purpose of a religion, belief, and contradicts all of Christian history.
This organization is similar to Reform Judaism and Unitarian Universalism. Role playing religion to reconcile someone's need to feel rational and logical, and finding a vessel to feel artificially useful.
Even atheists are allowed to be members here, but remember, you can't call them out on that because they are Christians! They said so! Even if they reject all major Christian beliefs and make up their own! Welcome to the Secular Temple of Rationality and Political Activism, where Jesus is no different than Buddha, and their modern interpretation beats thousands of years of theology!
To clarify, the early church was accused of not following the roman pagan gods, it was never considered to follow "atheism" in the literal sense of not believing in God. This is a perfect example of misrepresenting historical objectivity, and ironically prioritizing your own agendas to justify evading criticism.
Like I said, this organization is roleplaying as Christianity and tried to respond with a misleading statement. Keep...
Read moreI highly COMMEND this church for being a “shelter” (figurative & literal) for many. And, I largely AGREE with its political emphasis. I doubt there are significant differences between my general election ballot & those who lead & attend this church. HOWEVER, after receiving what felt like an un-Christlike message replete with false accusations from a prominent church leader (followed by a curt, condescending apology but only AFTER I accurately responded to the sender’s alleged “misunderstanding”), I CANNOT recommend this church under its current leadership. Simply put, the saved messages speak for themselves. Thomas Paine wrote, “My own mind is my own church.” And, since our enlightened deist “Founding Father” died “without a country,” I can certainly live without a church. The growing number of unchurched confirms I’m not alone. Based on my personal experience, I’m convinced this church selectively targets sincere seekers or devout people of faith because of their arguably dated, but innocent semantics. For example: An “unforgivable sin” may merely be a 1-time traditional reference to the testaments (despite an apology that is not accepted or remembered). Bottom line: Although I’ve been deeply hurt by dishonest, biblically inerrant Judeo-Christianity, the PERSONALITY of “progressive” Christianity (at its worst) seems like the proverbial distinction that doesn’t make a difference. So, 5 stars for this church’s exemplary community service (especially for our most vulnerable); yet 1 star for evidently NOT loving ALL of its neighbors while proclaiming otherwise in sermons,...
Read moreWarm and caring progressive church. The definition from wikipedia accurately portrays the pastor and the congregation: "Progressive Christianity is a form of Christianity which is characterized by a willingness to question tradition, acceptance of human diversity, a strong emphasis on social justice and care for the poor and the oppressed, and environmental stewardship of the earth. Progressive Christians have a deep belief in the centrality of the instruction to "love one another" (John 15:17) within the teachings of Jesus Christ. This leads to a focus on promoting values such as compassion, justice, mercy, and tolerance, often through...
