Coming from a big South Indian family of 10, our home kitchen was always bustling with activity and rich aromas. When you grow up eating home-cooked meals with that many people, you know real taste. So let me tell you about this gem I found - New India Sitara Restaurant.
Every dish here took me right back to our family dining table. Their weekend buffet? Awesome & Yummyy is the word- what a spread! Both chicken and mutton biryani tasted just like our home cooking - perfect spicing, tender meat, and that aromatic rice that makes you nostalgic. But wait - that's just the start. They had this spread of 5-6 different chicken curries (each one better than the last), and their mutton liver? yummy taste! Just like how we used to fight over the last pieces at home. And to vegetarians - you're in for a treat! Their chaat counter is a festival in itself - pani puris with that perfect sweet-spicy water, crispy dosas made right in front of you, and so many varieties of veg curries that you won't even miss the non-veg! There is a lot, but hard to list all the dishes I explored, to be honest.
My wife couldn't believe how authentic their idli-sambar was - you know that proper South Indian style? Even had sugar on the side like we eat back home. My son finished three plates! They've really thought about everyone - pure veg items are kept separately, so no tension.
The dessert counter was like a proper Indian wedding spread - hot gulab jamun, crispy jilebi, boorelu (yes, actual boorelu!), halwa, double ka meetha... Topped it all off with paan and fresh juices.
They've done up the place nicely too - new ambience but still feels apna style.
Trust this South Indian who grew up in a house full of food critics (we all were!) - whether you're missing home food, pure veg, or just love a good biryani, this place has something for everyone. Weekend buffet is proper value for money. Giving ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ rating for what I have experienced. Hope the taste to ambience to hospitality remains intact..
PS: Skip breakfast before visiting this place. You'll want to try everything - veg...
Read moreNew Sitara has delicious authentic Indian dishes with reasonable prices and extremely large portion sizes!
SERVICE - Every worker I interacted with was very pleasant! We got seated right away, our order was taken efficiently, and our food arrived quickly.
PRICING - The total was $59.46 after tax and before tip for chicken tikka tandoori ($15.99), malbar chicken curry ($14.99), boneless chicken biryani ($13.99), two orders of garlic naan ($2.99 each), and keema naan ($3.99). This was an INSANE amount of food for the cost so I’d say the pricing is very reasonable considering the large portion size.
CHICKEN TIKKA TANDOORI (8.5/10) - Fantastic! It comes out still sizzling and you get a great amount of chicken for the price. The flavor was great and the chicken was tender… there was one piece that was chewy and had a weird texture and I wish there were some more veggies served with it but I’d order this again!
MALBAR CHICKEN CURRY (8.5/10) - The flavor of this got better with every bite! It wasn’t as sweet as you’d expect with a coconut sauce, but the spice level is perfect and it’s extremely flavorful. I’d order this again!
BONELESS CHICKEN BIRYANI (8/10) - This wasn’t the most flavorful or life changing biryani I’ve ever had BUT it gets graded on a curve because the portion size is MASSIVE! The chicken was tender and had a great spice level. I’d order this again!
GARLIC NAAN (9/10) - One bite and it’s obvious why this is one of their most popular items! The garlic flavor is DELICIOUS! It was a little thinner and more crispy than some other naan I’ve had which was the only thing keeping it from being a perfect 10/10. I’d order this again!
KEEMA NAAN (7/10) - The flavor of the keema was great but it was very greasy… I’m happy I tried it but I probably wouldn’t order it again.
I’d definitely come back to New Sitara and would recommend it to others… especially if you want a local, casual place for some great Indian cuisine! If you order a lot, plan to have leftovers because the portions are massive and you get your...
Read moreWe dined in for lunch on a Sunday and the restaurant was fairly quiet, there were perhaps 3-4 other parties dining. Service was polite and attentive, but between courses we had empty plates pile up, which were not cleared unless we specifically asked. The ambience was nice, not very casual or bare bones - they have recently done renovations (compare these interior pictures to older ones and you can see the upgrade). There will also be lunch buffet on weekends, last weekend of July ‘24 onwards (they mentioned they are bringing back the buffet after a 2 year hiatus). The food tasted great. We started with crispy corn (coated, fried corn kernels, spiced with mustard seeds, jeera and spices) which was super tasty, highlighting the simple mustard, jeera and garlic flavor paired with crispy sweet corn. The jeera papad seemed like your basic Lijjat papad puffed up in a microwave and was uncooked in spots, but their house-made mint-coriander chutney was fresh and delicious (and had a subtle kick to it!). Next, the gobi manchurian was nice too - perhaps an average manchurian taste-wise, but the texture was spot on (partly crunchy and crumbly). The chicken peppercorn tasted good but was spicy. The Paneer Khurchan is not a dish you might see on most menus, a welcome novelty - and it tasted great. The paneer was cooked well, not rubbery, and the gravy had good flavor. The Andhra masala chicken curry and chicken dum biryan were also well-made with good flavor. The roti (wheat flour) and garlic naan were both fresh, warm and fluffy. For dessert we got a mango cake pastry, gajar halwa and sweet paan. The mango pastry was your typical desi-cake, and could induce some childhood birthday nostalgia. The gajar halwa was not too sweet, and neither was it outstanding. The sweet pan was a great way to end the meal. When you see the menu you will see lots of small typos - while typos don’t impact the readability, they will make...
