I went there today for my first time after having signed up online yesterday. The membership was prorated for just the days of this month left since I signed up on the 13th which I really appreciated.
I was very impressed with the quantity and variety of gym equipment they had, everything from machines & light weights on the ground floor, a pool & locker rooms in the basement, a cardio room, a boxing room, a heavy weights & weight racks area, and a studio for group exercise and a spinning room.
For $50/month - I think there are a few things they could be doing better, primarily in the locker rooms & but also regarding the work out space.
The locker rooms are cold - I found myself cold in there before I went to the pool and absolutely frigid when I came back from the pool. Maybe that’s an unsolvable problem, idk. But the showers don’t get hot, they don’t even get warm so there’s no relief from the cold. They also don’t provide hair dryers, which I’ve never seen a gym not provide before. The shower curtains do not cover the whole shower opening, I’m not a prude but it definitely did not add to my experience. So these are minor things I know, but they can make a big difference.
Regarding the workout space it would be great for a small area for someone to do some floor exercises while there are classes going on in the groupex room. I like to finish my workout with a nice stretch and I didn’t see anywhere to do this. Finally, a few DVD’s of maybe Zumba or yoga or pregnancy yoga or whatever that members can use on a tv somewhere. You can look stuff up on phones but it’s not ideal when you’re trying to work out IMO.
All in all, a good gym, but I’ve paid $20-$30/month at others and gotten just a few more amenities that made my...
Read moreI called to book a free trial of the pool today. The person who answered said they close at 5 and you can book a lane for 30 mins. I asked if 4:30 was fine and they said yes, so I called a rideshare over to make sure I was on time since it was snowing. I also asked if they needed any name or number and they said no, I could just show up. When I arrived at around 4:32 the door was locked. I called the front desk twice and no one answered. I had to stand outside in the cold waiting until 4:45 when I realized no one was going to open the door. Extremely unprofessional - if there was a policy barring entry past 4:30 they should have mentioned it on the phone or at least taken my number to call or text me about it. Otherwise, they could have answered my phone calls, or even left the door unlocked and told me once I had arrived that I wouldn’t be able to use the facilities. Extremely disappointed that I wasted time and money getting here and back in the snow, to have 0 response from the front desk. Will not be coming...
Read moreI'd rate this place a 4/3 if I could. This is the gym I've been going to my whole life, and I didn't realize how good I had it until I moved to NYC and started going to the pile of crap that is the gym near me. Great staff, great equipment, spacious, pool and sauna. Tons of cardio equipment. Even though it's a huge place, there are a lot of "regulars" that you get to know quickly and it ends up feeling like the "Cheers bar" of gyms. They let you do power cleans, they let you do deadlifts, they let you use chalk, they let you do whatever you want. Huge area for bench press, two squat racks, two full dumbbell racks on separate floors. They have all sorts of classes as well, though I never did any, but they have everything from boxing to spinning to boot camp to salsa dancing to god knows what. They were thinking about adding an MMA class last time I was there.
In short, 10/10, would lift again. I wish I could transport this place to Queens. If you live in South Philly this is the place...
