Formally named Logan Square Logan Circle - this is an important landmark in the Parkway Museum District. From a pasture to burial grounds with public hangings and a gallows as late as 1823, the city made improvements: “moving graves and planting trees”. The centerpiece of this work is Swann Memorial Fountain - bronze sculptures by Alexander Stirling Calder - erected July 1924, surrounded by formal flower beds and accessible to the public. Swann Memorial Fountain construction was directed by The Philadelphia Fountain Society under the bequest of Maria E. Swann in memory of her husband, Wilson Cary Swann.
