AVOID .. HORRIBLE, RUDE bartenders .. went with my friend, whom lives in the neighborhood, later in the evening for a little food and a drink. It was a cold slower evening with few people inside. No one ever greeted us at the bar, it was almost like we were an “inconvenience” for the two gentlemen bartenders .. although they seemed to be very jovial with the guys at the end of the bar. The cheese plate we ordered was great. My friend ordered the kale salad. I ordered the mussels in white wine sauce/broth. They were TERRIBLE. The white wine “sauce/broth” tasted like luke warm water with maybe a touch of some sort of stock. Zero seasoning, a handful of tarragon and half cooked onions thrown on top of the mussels. The mussels themselves were chewy and half of them completely closed. I ate maybe 4 of them from the bowl ... the bartenders ignored us the entire time, it was like pulling teeth to even get a glass of water from them. Not ONCE did either of them ask how we were doing or how the food was. The Malbec I ordered was good. When we asked for the check the one bartender took the mussels away and could clearly see I barely ate any of them, but failed to ask if everything was alright ... he never gave me the opportunity to let him know that they were not good, because when he came to give us the check he nearly threw it on the bar, and turned and walked away real quick to continue chatting with the guys at the end of the bar. He NEVER even said thank you when he set the check down. I’ve worked in the restaurant business for 15+ years and have never received such bad service. Bad/mediocre food happens, I get that, obv not the bartenders or waiters fault. But to not greet, thank, or check in with your customers not ONCE, is deplorable.. I will never return to this establishment, neither will my friend. We were blown away. And she has been tending bar here in Philly for quite some years .. she too was in...

We stopped into Kite & Key on a Friday after work for drinks and wings with fries. Unfortunately, it was an underwhelming visit.

First the positive, the fries were pretty good. They were cut thinner than regular cut and thicker than shoestring fries. They were fried and seasoned well. The service was also timely and the server was nice.

As for the negatives, I’ll start with my drink. I ordered a captain and coke and asked for it to be double. I didn’t see it get made, but it didn’t taste like there was more than one shot. The wings were the biggest issue, though. I enjoy wings of all types. Sweet, spicy/hot, sweet and spicy, breaded, naked, fried, baked, broiled. We ordered the Kentucky Bourbon Pineapple BBQ and Sweet Thai Chili wings. While the wings were meaty and fried well, the taste of the sauces was a major miss for us. The bbq didn’t taste great and the pineapple didn’t seem to come through. And the sweet thai wings tasted like the bottle you buy from the market was dumped on top at the end. The typical heat you get from this type of wing did not come through. Though we were still hungry eventually we couldn’t keep eating it.

I’m sure they have other great food but for wings, this was a major...

Spur of the moment decision to go to dinner with friends a couple weeks ago and, since I live up the block but hadn't been here yet, chose this place.

Good atmosphere with the open front of the restaurant and bar, with more seating towards the back (looked like there may be an upstairs but didn't venture there). Hostess and our server were friendly and very attentive. We all ordered the Blackened Chicken Sandwich; I also had a Magners. For dessert, we we're a little disappointed because they were out of the Bread Pudding and the Beignets, but the Chocolate Lava Cake was still good. Overall, good food and dining experience. I would come back to try some other items.

*Tip: for the Blackened Chicken Sandwich, you may want to tell them not to blacken it too much. One of my friends I was with order hers like that based off prior experience, so we followed suit and ordered the same way. Good thing we did, because it was just right and I couldn't imagine them cooking/blackening it more than that

Update: went for lunch last week with some coworkers since we were in the area. A decent reliable spot and I did really enjoy my Grilled Chicken Sandwich & Sweet...

Nice option for a bite and a brew! Thumbs up on the breakfast empanadas, red bliss potato hash and the kite & key burger. Honorable and dishonorable mentions: When the potato hash came out it looked like a very small portion, because I'm used to seeing this dish being basically... a pile of potatoes. But I have to say, it was actually very filling and just the right amount of food. Plus the quality + flavor was far above any other version of hash I've tried. Very balanced texturally, seasoned amazingly, perfectly cooked everything including a phenomenally executed overeasy egg. Would order again and highly recommend! The fried pickle dish on the other hand, is a laughably small portion and doesn't make up for it by being exceptional in any way. It's 5 chips (rounds) of fried pickle. This is like half a pickle. The ratio of pickle to batter was batter heavy, and the sauce was typical fried pickle sauce. This dish felt like a complete rip off. Food aside, the service was good and the atmosphere was relaxed. My raspberry mule was a little too sweet but my friend's mimosa was perfect. Overall I'd say this is a nice choice for a casual meal with friends.
