This is the Friends of the Free Library of Philadelphia bookstore and they have a pretty broad selection for a place that relies entirely on donations. There is also a cute little gray cat. My only complaint is they apparently put Horror in the Mystery section (pic), which is a completely different audience. I had to wade through tons of Sidney Sheldon, Nelson DeMille, Jonathan Kellerman, Janet Evanovich, and other authors I have zero interest in. Since the Scifi/Fantasy section is so small, I would make it Scifi/Fantasy/Horror.

My favorite book store in the whole city!! It’s in a great location, right behind the Free Library, across the street from the Barnes Foundation, less than 10 minute walk to City Hall, right around the corner from Sabrina’s Cafe. This is a great spot to add to your date itinerary if you’re going to be in the neighborhood. Super affordable prices, expansive collection, many rare finds(!!!) and the staff are always so friendly and kind and willing to answer any questions possible. it’s such a warm and welcoming atmosphere.💛

What a great bookstore - it's not the cutest shop you've ever been in but the staff is friendly and it's the sort of bookshop where you hunt for hidden treasure, if that makes any sense. It's a real rummage-y sort of shop. And the breadth of topics is broad for such a small shop, including several non-English options near the front of the largest room.

I have been coming to Book Corner for YEARS!! But today was different. I have seen this woman before but I have never interacted with her until today 8/11/25. She was really rude, and not just to me. I came in to donate books. I have never needed to make an appt. She asked if I had an appt and I said "I needed to make an appt?" She replied, "Yes, that's why I asked." Then she proceeds to tell me what they accept and don't accept. I know what's in my bags but still she wanted me to double check and then proceeds to check herself....Another person asked her about a book, I guess he was looking for a specific book and she says "This isn't Barnes and Noble." As I was checking out, I had to put the book in a certain spot for her to check me out and I couldn't touch it.

I checked other reviews and I do see that it wasn't just me; she has been rude to customers for a long time. I don't understand why she still works there even after there has been so many bad reviews, specifically in regards to their experience with her. It's sad because I really liked coming here and everyone I've ever interacted with has been super nice and friendly. I don't see myself coming here...

Don’t let your day ruin by a rude staff. What a horrible customer service by the staff lady on 8/28. Unfriendly, rude, acted as I would stole the books or terrorize the cat. I have my own cats and dogs and I didn’t chase or anything. Kept following me and say comments that I can barely hear. Also, when I ask the payment method, replied rudely, and didn't let me touch the book until the payment process, while it’s already processing. Said, “you can’t take till it’s done!” The book store has plenty but if this is the service everyone is getting then I’m afraid the book store is not going to have a lot...

I can't believe I lived in Philly for 5+ years during college I never walked into this store. I must've ran/walked by thirty times. It's awesome!!! AND, they have CATS!!!

Accessibility: curb-cuts and ramps, decent amount of space in the building to maneuver a stroller or wheelchair Parking: street parking. Nothing accessible super close by Seating: none Staff: kind, helpful, available Restrooms: 99% sure there are none Atmosphere: old books Animals: cats inside! But probably do not being your pet, not sure but service animals are probably allowed Kid...
