This is relatively new arena (5 yrs or so) with excellent sound and video capabilities. It seats 7,000 on two levels, an upper "ring" and the lower "bowl." During the late Fall and most of the Winter, it's primary use is as the home court for the Grand Canyon University 'Lopes varsity basketball team which plays in the NCAA Division I Western Athletic Confetence. Throughout the year it is used as an event venue for students and the general public. It hosts musical and comedy shows and other competitions of various sorts. Parking is available in the parking structure just across the driveway from the arena and elsewhere on campus. If you are planning to attend an event that is likely to sell out or almost sell out, you should allow extra time to account for traffic congestion during the hour before and after the event. There are electronic signs along Camelback Road in the mile between the nearest freeway exit (the Camelback Rd. off ramp of the I-17 freeway) and the university. They inform you of which parking lot to use depending on your status such as "General Admission tickets" or "Season Tickets" or "ADA Permits." Pay attention to these or you will be forced to go around the block and come back to the correct lot. The facility is generally well maintained and there are typically plenty of ushers or event staff to help you find your seat. There are snack bars and restrooms around the arena except on the upper ring. This is a nice arena for small to medium...
Read moreBeautiful Campus and Arena. I'm a musician, so I absolutely appreciate and love great acoustics, lighting and sound.
This arena has all three! Of course most of the credit goes to the sound board and special effects people.
We came here to see FOR KING AND COUNTRY, a well known, popular Christian band.
I could see their team had all the latest technology... some brought in, but some already existing.
I believe any concert you see here will be stunning...at least the sound system will be...
The Bass sounds we're seriously rattling my chest and the high pitch treble range wasn't over powering...so I was able to keep my earplugs in my pocket.
I recommend getting here at least a few hours before your venue, that is...weather permitting.
We stopped to get a bite to eat and spent the rest of our time walking around the campus and taking pictures.
There are several restaurants within 15 to 20 minutes of the arena. But if you happen to be pressed for time they have a cafeteria here with a few fast food restaurants.
They also have concession stands open inside the...
Read moreThis building is state of the art, inside and out. First of all, The Arena has a policy of see-through bags and purses, and if you don't have one, you can find a nice see-through bag at the GCU Student Store just around the corner from The Arena. Inside the building you'll find multiple levels for seating, and if you're in General Admission, you'll take an escalator to the second level. Every seat on that second level has a fantastic view of the floor. There's a big screen for showing replays and other programming. The temperature was perfect and I did not detect any unpleasant odors. Concessions were plentiful and no pricier than the local movie theater. The Grand Canyon University Arena is a fabulous location for multiple activities and I highly recommend supporting GCU's athletics and other departments that use...
