Great Wall Cuisine holds a special place in my heart, as it is a restaurant that I frequented with my beloved great grandmother. Each visit was a cherished opportunity to bond over delicious dim sum dishes that left a lasting impression on both our palates and our memories. Among the many exquisite offerings at Great Wall Cuisine, the Char Siu Bao, Shumai, and Chow Mein were standout favorites that continue to evoke treasured moments shared with my dear grandmother.
The Char Siu Bao holds an irreplaceable significance in my culinary journey. I can still vividly recall the sweet aroma that greeted us as we entered the restaurant, instantly whisking us away to a world of delectable flavors. The tender, barbecue-infused pork encased within the delicate steamed bun was a symphony of flavors that brought sheer delight to our taste buds. Each bite was a reminder of the joy we experienced together, savoring the artistry of these pillowy delights.
Another dish that never failed to impress was the Shumai. These meticulously crafted, open-faced dumplings revealed the culinary expertise that Great Wall Cuisine is renowned for. The combination of succulent shrimp and savory pork transported us to moments of shared appreciation for the finer things in life. As we dipped each Shumai into the provided sauces, we exchanged smiles and marveled at the harmonious fusion of flavors and textures.
The Chow Mein, with its perfectly cooked noodles and vibrant medley of vegetables and meats, was a comforting and satisfying dish that nourished not only our bodies but also our souls. It became a symbol of our deep-rooted connection, as we relished in the simple pleasures of enjoying a meal together. The interplay of flavors and the comforting embrace of the noodles allowed us to create lasting memories, etched forever in my heart.
Beyond the extraordinary dishes, the warm and attentive service at Great Wall Cuisine enhanced our dining experiences. The staff's genuine care and understanding made us feel like cherished guests, adding an extra layer of warmth to our visits. Their kindness and attentiveness further enriched the bond I shared with my great grandmother during these cherished moments.
Although my great grandmother is no longer with us, the memories we created at Great Wall Cuisine continue to bring comfort and joy. The restaurant's commitment to authentic flavors and impeccable quality keeps her spirit alive, reminding me of the precious times we spent together.
Great Wall Cuisine is more than just a restaurant; it is a sanctuary where cherished memories are cultivated. The Char Siu Bao, Shumai, and Chow Mein will forever hold a special place in my heart, symbolizing the love, laughter, and connection I shared with my great grandmother. Each visit to Great Wall Cuisine is a bittersweet journey that allows me to honor her memory and celebrate the flavors that connected us in a profound and...
Read moreI grew up eating dimsum at least once a week. So when I moved to Phoenix and found out from my coworker that this was the go to dimsum place in Arizona, I had to make a trip there!
We went around prime time which was lunchtime (12 PM) during the weekend and the wait was only around 25 minutes (for three), which definitely isn't bad! There was also ample parking in the area. Usually for traditional dimsum I've had in the USA, there are servers who bring the cart of items to your area/table. So I read the reviews prior to coming and it seemed like people had an issue with the customer service but my experience differed. The workers were exactly how workers usually are at dimsum places. I would even say they were nicer than a lot of the other servers I've seen in CA/NV area dimsum places. When we were seated, someone came over to give us the plate sets and take our drink orders. Our tea cups were dirty so we had to ask for a replacement, which they kindly replaced. This is common though in a lot of dimsum places, just politely let the servers know to replace. When the cart servers came, they asked us what we wanted in English and didn't need us to wave them over. We definitely had every single cart in the area come by without much effort on our end. And when items we wanted weren't available on the carts, they took our orders and helped bring us the items from the back.
All the items we ordered tasted satisfactory and that's typically how I judge my dimsum places. If the service isn't horrible and everything tastes as they should be, then it is an awesome dimsum place! Nothing tasted super amazingly delicious but my favorites were the custard bo luo bao, BBQ pork cheong fun, tofu shrimp, and the turnip cakes from this place. But for people new to dimsum, I would recommend going with some friends to split the items and to try some of the following classics: turnip cake, cheong fun (three different varieties to choose from), shrimp shu mai, shrimp dumplings (har gow), spare ribs with black bean, chicken feet, lotus leaf rice wraps, egg tarts, and custard pineapple buns.
Will definitely come back if I'm craving dimsum and...
Read moreCaution: their "BBQ combination $14.00" consists of... one item! And they don't have an assorted BBQ plate like a typical Cantonese Chinese restaurant. Don't be fooled by the name "combination", there is no such thing here. They have roasted pork belly, roster duck and BBQ pork, each item is $14.00, combination of the 3 meats is $42.00. Caution: beef brisket on the menu, means beef tendon, see picture. It's very tough, chewy, and from precooked pre-frozen situation, I know it because some chunks were cold inside, and some bites have bad smell, must have been ages since it was cooked. We ordered half a duck, beef brisket/tendon pot, and salty fish with chicken and tofu pot, and string beans with XO sauce. The duck is fine. Not amazing, but fine, better than the new hot deli ducknfeom the 99 Ranch in Chandler. String bean with XO sauce was ok/good, costs $17 though. In a steakhouse, this can put a whole meal on a big plate. Salty fish sauce with tofu and chicken is fine, but they used hard tofu not tender tofu. The tofu dish looks not impressive, very plain, so I didn't take a picture. Waiter was not helpful, while explaining to me the BBQ combination plate only consists of one meat, he was with an arrogant attitude, then he told me everything is good, when I asked what he would recommend. Eventually I found their best dish is just alright, and beef brisket is tough like rubber. I don't know why he has that expression. Looks like he is a boss or a lead there.
I heard their dim sum is good from am American friend, maybe will come back and try that. I noticed most customer pictures are about dimsum.
And I would not recommend this place for dinner.
(Dim sum review): it's alright, but Mekong Plaza's dim sum is the best of the valley. It's full but the wait is not bad if you come in a small...
