Maybe times have changed, but I thought for certain libraries were for learning, studying, reading, and engagement. For some reason the city of phoenix decided to put another crowd of people in front of students, children, and those willing to read and learn. From the moment I pulled up to the parking lot all I saw were dirty needles, burnt spoons, and a sketchy guy asking me to "borrow a screwdriver"? I figured we'll the inside must be better for sure, and was then met with it filled to the brim of every computer, chair, and table. Heck there were even men sleeping on the floor. There was a guy drugged out at one of the computers for Pete's sake! As i walked through the book shelves I found them 90% barren, almost like they had been raided by thieves almost (wonder why). Of course that could explain why every move you make in the building is monitored and surveyed by literal security officers. How is anyone supposed to trust their children to be safe in an environment like this? Libraries used to be a place so trusting and safe that students after school would be able to come there while their parents were at work and be able to do school work. Now we have people with their glass pipes and baggies of "contents" sprawled across the tables. Im not implying kicking people of need to the streets or to not provide any aid and assistance, but the library is not tge place to do it. Community centers and shelters are the places meant to sleep, eat, drink water, and escape the heat, not...
Read moreMs. Terry, the Kid's storyteller is absolutely wonderful! She is extremely interactive with the children. She reads to the kids snd also has the kids dance using props. She uses colorful props so she can teach the kids colors in Spanish and English. I love how she incorporates a little Spanish in her class! She has the kids do a craft based on what was being taught that day. She uses object that kids can use their 5 senses. Today she taught about different kinds of trees in Arizona. Giving each child a part of a tree. Caregivers were learning too! If you break a cottonwood tree stick at the joint, you will see a star. You can make flower (mixing a little real flower) from the seeds from a Mesquite tree. The inside of pod tastes sweet. Amazing facts!! Kids made a craft from pine needles! Ms. Terry is also extremely sweet. Amazing people skills to...
Read moreThis is a great library! I don't know why the children's corner is all blocked with bookcases and the play area there is stacked with chairs and desks—but I highly suspect this is one of those really intelligent things that people do in response to covid-19. The smartest of all of us always know what's best for all of us. I always think of librarians as being the super-smart people. They must know what they're doing. They must have looked at the science and understood that blocking off the corner of the library would protect us all from the deadly pandemic. Somehow they were able to determine that the rest of the children's book section would be just...
