Really rather unfortunate visit :/ The man who worked there was VERY personable and fun. However, the problem I had was that he was calling out clues the whole time without us asking. I appreciate he was trying to be helpful, but we wanted the challenge and were prepared to ask for help if we needed it. With him shouting out the answers, we accidentally bypassed the solution to riddles and escaped in under half an hour. We like escape rooms for the thrill and even the struggle of trying to get out. The employees just need to wait for the group to ask, even if they are really stumped. We know the protocol. In addition, we had to wait almost 40 minutes to get into the room. I'm not sure if there was an overbooking or what, but we needed to sit in the "party room" waiting for the room to open, which kept being told "only 10 more minutes" to us until it reached almost 40. In addition, the room was FREEZING. Absolutely frigid. We all had winter coats and never took them off and two members of our group said they couldn't feel their toes when we left. I'm not mentioning the employee or the day we came because they were very very nice and might have just wanted to go home because we were the last group of the night, and I don't want them in any trouble. Might just be worth mentioning that clues should be requested.
Rating 3 stars because I went twice years ago and it was a great experience. Bummed by this visit, hope it was...
Read moreDid “the apartment” escape room. You would find a combination or key and then have to try it on the 30 different locks in there until you found the right one….. and then rinse and repeat without much variation. Not really my idea of fun puzzles so much as just trial and error. I wouldn’t recommend this room to be honest, it felt like a waste of money.
We also did “the dig” escape room. It was much more interesting in terms of puzzle variety, but the sliding tile puzzle was not set up correctly and could not be technically solved. The guide insisted it could be solved but could not solve it at the end when asked to. It didn’t prevent completion of the room since we could tell what the answer was meant to be, but was still frustrating when one member was clearly trying to explain it wasn’t possible and was told to just move on to other stuff by the guide.
She would also just give us random clues we didn’t ask for, which was a bit annoying.
Given the price I’d rather go to the other escape room in homestead that’s the same price but has much better sets and actual puzzles, and better awareness from...
Read moreI've completed "The Agency" and "The Dig" with family in 2021 and 2023, respectively, the week of Thanksgiving when my brothers and their families were in from out of town. I cannot remember the name of our clue master two years ago, but "The Agency" definitely required some hints to help our novice group (including four kids 15 and under in our team of ten). We did not officially escape within the hour, but were almost done unlocking the door when time ran out. Nena was our clue master this year for The Dig, and our more experienced group of 8 finished in just over half an hour. Both challenges were very fun experiences for our family and provided unique outings for folks visiting Pittsburgh. I'm looking forward to checking off "The Apartment" next! I highly recommend checking out Escape the Room if you're looking for a team-building or family bonding experience...or if you just love...
