I stepped in thinking it's just a candle shop and how wrong was I! Think of them more as a "fragrance store". The candle lab is a really cool concept, perfect if you love fragrances and are looking for a fun/creative way to spend the afternoon/evening. Of course, you can buy their on-the-shelf products (candles, essential oils, room sprays, body lotion, scrubs etc). But what I'd really recommend is taking a risk and making your own. You can pick your product type, size and mix and match your choice of fragrances to make your very own custom creation! They have tons of fragrance options to choose from. Cherry blossom, lavender, cologne, cranberry, musk, pumpkin spice are some of their more traditional ones but what caught my fancy were their unusual fragrances like daddy's den, hot cocoa, earth, morning dew, old books, sea breeze, summer lawn, wasabi, cannabis and incense among SO SO many more. I don't think I've ever smelled 'rain' in a candle before! And bacon! Yes.. thatās right..bacon smelling lotion or diffuser is now an option. After you've had your fill of smelling and re-smelling the options on display, you make a list of what you liked and their staff will help you whittle it down and suggest suitable revisions based on what goes well with what. You can then proceed to mix them and pour out your very own fragrance mix into a candle (or product of your choice) and take it home with you! My boyfriend and I decided to do a 11oz candle. (They use soy wax) which cost us $20. Different sizes and products are differently priced. We then created an "Indian temple" inspired fragrance with incense, jasmine and hints of sandalwood. You can even customize the little sticker that goes on it! I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it. We took our own sweet time sniffing and trying and discussing and then sniffing again... We definitely think we tried the patience of the staff member who was initially helping us coz of how long we took. But this really isn't the kind of thing you wanna hurry through. You gotta take out a few hours and really soak in the aromas! Remember, the oils smell slightly different from their scent in a candle..especially if you're mixing 2-3 fragrances. So your final product may be a bit different from what you were going for and you'll only know when you get home and light up your candle. Nevertheless, my boyfriend and I liked our final product and the experience overall. I'd recommend it as a fun post-brunch Sunday date with the significant other, mom or even your bestie. They also do group events. One little peeve - They cap you out at mixing a maximum of 3 fragrances which I don't understand. We're anyway paying for a fixed volume. It's a little vial that you gotta fill with your combination so it shouldn't matter if we choose to mix 3 into that vial or 5. Also what would have made the experience perfect, was some wine and cheese or even beers! Not sure if that'd mess with the smelling-senses! But I do think they're BYOB. I plan to take my mom and aunt this Mother's Day and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis was such a good experience to enjoy with friends and family. I made a reservation for my friend and I to spend time together and enjoy each others company. We maybe see each other a few times a year, so this was a nice time to do something fun and catch up. We mainly worked with Anthony, who was a staff member there. He was very polite, knowledgeable, and fun to work with. My friend and I really enjoyed our experience with him. I am giving our experience a 4 out of 5 stars because it really was a good and relaxing time, but unfortunately, there was a not so good interaction the second my friend and I walked in to the store. This bad interaction did not overcome the overall good experience my friend and I had, but I felt the need to share. The store required masks regardless of vaccination statues, which is not problem for my friend or I. I was putting my mask on as I am walking in the door and adjusting it as I ask a worker approaching the front of the store if there are any masks available for my friend. The worker, who had a pixie haircut and blue eye shadow on, told me, "please don't pull your mask down while talking." I responded, " I wasn't going to." Worker stated, "Well, you did." This worker didn't even realize that I was adjusting my mask, not pulling it down as I spoke. All at the same time as this interaction is happening there are multiple customers with masks down smelling candles, and my friend standing next to me waiting to get a mask. This was the very first interaction I received the second I was coming into a store for the very first time. It was a terrible first impression for a first time customer. That worker was way too quick to judge, and should have thought before speaking. The interaction happened so quickly there was nothing else to say. I just wanted to have a good with my friend. Overall, that interaction made me and my friend very uncomfortable the moment we walked in. In the end, it is pretty ironic that I am asking for an extra mask for my friend and I get told to not pull my mask down when talking, when in reality that was not what I was doing at all. I hope anyone that goes to Mix Candle Co has a very enjoyable time, and not judged the moment they walk into...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been coming here for years since it was the Candle Lab and celebrated several special occasions here. The most recent time I had a reservation for 10 people at 11am. As the organizer of the event for my birthday, I arrived ten minutes early (with 3 others) to be respectful of our reservation (not realizing they didnāt open yet). Staff was inside and the door was open. It was pouring rain so we came inside. A staff member told us we had to wait outside. I said āI am Alaina and have the reservation for 11am. Do we have to wait in the rain?ā And they said yes. I was flabbergasted. This is Lawrenceville so you canāt simply walk back to your car in the parking lot and wait. A much better response from a business who specialize in customer experience is āwelcome! Weāre happy to have you celebrate your birthday with us. We open in 10 minutes so weāre not quite ready for you yet, however, youāre more than welcome to wait over whatever place most appropriate or if you want to brave the rain there is a coffee shop a few stores down if you want to grab a coffee firstā That would have been the appropriate response. Not. Weāre not open. Wait outside. (Do I have to wait in the rain?) Yes.
That being said, Alexis was very friendly, and she assisted our group.
Iād suggest the business not scheduling reservations...
