I’m giving 3 stars instead of 1 only because Sophie stepped in and fixed everything.
This was my first time here, so I booked a random person and ended up with Julie. Unfortunately, it was a terrible experience. She did my acrylic nails, and they came out incredibly thick—my thumbnail literally looked like a turtle shell. I asked for almond-shaped nails, but the shape was completely off-center and uneven.
Throughout the process, I kept asking Julie if the nails were supposed to be this thick and if the shape would be fixed, but she just kept saying, “I’m not done yet.” Even after she finished filing, the nails were still bulky and the shape was worse. I also requested a French style, but it looked like shaky, hand-drawn zigzags. I understand there may have been a language barrier, but the real issue was that she didn’t even try to communicate or check the reference photo I provided. When I asked her questions, she seemed annoyed and spoke one word in Vietnamese, which made me feel really uncomfortable.
Thankfully, Sophie noticed what was happening and stepped in to help. She was so kind and patient—she had to completely redo everything, including fixing the shape and thinning out the ridiculously thick acrylic. She also cleaned up my cuticles, which Julie hadn’t done.
I really appreciate Sophie and the other staff who were all friendly and welcoming. But based on my experience with Julie, I wouldn’t book her again.
Updated Review May 28
Let’s be clear: I paid full price, tipped well, and still had to sit through a poor service before Sophie stepped in to fix everything. Saying my review is “unnecessary” is dismissive and unprofessional.
Yes, I booked with Julie because your system forced me to pick someone. It was my first visit and I had no idea who to choose. If Julie doesn’t do French or basic designs, that should’ve been made clear. No one told me that until after she botched the job.
I was respectful and asked questions because the nails looked thick and uneven. That’s not “overwhelming,” that’s a customer asking for the service they paid for.
Messaging me during my vacation to take down my review? Completely out of line. Feedback is earned...
Read moreA few weeks ago, my friends and I visited Nail Luxury in Shadyside on Memorial Day. We were thankful (even though Sophia or Sophie, who is a Nail Tech there also told us we should be thankful that we were getting serviced on the day like this) they could accommodate all four of us on a holiday, and we weren’t concerned about timing we just wanted to relax, vibe, and enjoy a luxury experience.
Unfortunately, what we got was far from that.
We all paid $80 for their luxury pedicure service, and there was absolutely nothing luxury about it. The salon was not clean no visible sanitation between services, no Lysol wipes in sight, and basic cleanliness protocols seemed nonexistent. One of my friends had to stop her service midway because the nail tech was clearly inexperienced. We later found out she was new but that’s not an excuse for providing services without proper training, especially at this price point.
Worse, the customer service was extremely dismissive. When we expressed (politely) that the service didn’t feel luxurious, we were met with rudeness and attitude not a solution, not an apology, not even acknowledgment. What made this more uncomfortable was witnessing how customers of different races specifically, white customers —were greeted and treated with far more enthusiasm, attention, and care. Meanwhile, we were rushed through and treated with indifference, almost like we were a burden.
We’re not trying to make this solely about race, but the pattern was clear. Based on our experience and that of a friend we referred who had the exact same issues.
The fact that this business held a 5-star rating until recently is baffling. It currently shows a 4.9, but even that feels misleading. This was not a five-star experience by any standard — in cleanliness, professionalism, or how we were treated as Black women.
We cannot recommend Nail Luxury. There are too many other salons in Pittsburgh where you’ll be respected, feel welcomed, and receive the service you actually paid for — regardless of...
Read moreFirst off, I would like to thank Bill for the professionalism he showed throughout this experience.
Unfortunately, the woman who assisted me — not Sophia or Sophie — did not display the same level of professionalism or care. Before the service began, I showed both Bill and the woman who did my feet a photo of what I wanted, and they confirmed they could do it. However, when it came time to perform the service, it became clear she was not actually able to deliver what I asked for. I let her know that I didn’t want to continue.
Even before I ended the service, the massage she gave was lackluster at best. At one point, she took the bottle of lotion, dipped it in the same water my feet were soaking in, and then used the towel my feet were on to dry it off. This was extremely unprofessional, and I will be reporting it to the state board along with other concerns.
Sophia then stepped in and became passive-aggressive with me, asking sarcastically whether she was doing it “right.” She also failed to follow the design I requested. I told her that if she wasn’t able to perform the service, she should not have agreed to do it. She proceeded to call me “difficult,” and a scene ensued. I was so embarrassed I had to walk out.
I’ve never been treated this way before. I came in fully prepared to pay for a relaxing and enjoyable experience, but that was not what I received. I cannot recommend this business to anyone looking to spend their hard-earned money on...
