This place is like a Geeky Hallmark store, but it's so much more than "Kards". I love it! It's one of my favorite shops in Shadyside & in general. If I was rich, I'd want to buy at least 3/4 of this store's merchandise. Such a wide variety of things, but I'll give as much of a description as I can below.
There's lotsa comic book character items, Harry Potter, Cthulhu, Mr. Rogers, Game of Thrones, & more. Toys for kids & adults. Jewelry & trinkets. Items for the cartoons Rick and Morty and The Simpsons. Greeting cards, balloons, tree ornaments, & other things you'd buy for parties & holidays.
There's plenty of items related to tv shows, movies, & books themes. T-shirts, mugs, pint glasses, shot glasses, candles, stuffed animals, trinket boxes, amusing tins of mints & candies, specialty soaps & other bath items, stationary, MANY new & classic books, and so much more.
The employees are also wonderful. They're very helpful, kind, & knowledgeable about the merchandise.
The cashier I had was also very apologetic for the way he had to ring me up, because it's somewhat of a long process. This is the only problem I have with this shop, & I assume it's the owner's "choice". They don't have a scanner, therefore any cashier must write down the full name of each item as they enter prices into the cash register. I can only guess the reason, but I think it's to keep track of stock on hand & what's been sold. Because my receipt was not handwritten & showed only each item's price, but...

In the age of online shopping and big box stores, KU is a breath of fresh air. Itâs easily one of the coolest shops in the city! There is so much to look at and itâs the kind of stuff you donât find anywhere else: cards, stickers, games, booksâyou name it. I never leave without fun gifts for at least 3 people (and myself, of course.) KU has the most unique things with a sense of humor, including Pittsburgh-themed goodies.
To note: I also love that they support other local businesses, artists and makers. They are also pretty loudly liberal and accepting. Definitely feels like a safe space. (So important these days.)
I remember coming here when I was a kid with my momâjust in awe of everything! I hope this store lives on and on. Shop local, folks! Donât let brick and mortar be gobbled up by the greedy...
Read moreA solid bookstore with a large collection of new books for purchase and plenty of fun knick knacks and t-shirts! I do have to complain about the choice to have an entire section at the ENTRANCE of the store dedicated to some particularly NSFW and anatomically graphic items used during bachelorette parties - if you catch my drift. If they want to sell these items, more power to them, but putting them right at the entrance of the store, next to children's toys seems like a pretty monumental oversight. This store is quite large and has plenty of room to put next to other gag gifts, so I just do not understand why it is one of the first things you see while entering a book/ card store of all things.
Anyways, it's a neat store with fun stuff to check out- it's just kind of bothered me that it isn't appropriate for children...
