On December 2023, I contacted the YMCA at Pleasant Hill to ask for information about their baby swimming classes. On the phone they told me that they have an indoor pool and that my husband could alternate and go in the pool with me even if he is not a member.
With this information, in January 2024 I decided to become a member and to enroll my little one on the swimming class. Today it was the first class and, when we get there, by my surprise, they tell me that the classes are in an outdoor pool and that, as my husband is not an active member, he can't get in the pool.
I was really upset about this, so, when I went outside and mentioned it to what seems to be the pool coordinator, she apologized and said that she would understand if we leave or that we could try the lesson as we were there and she could talk to the manager to give us a refund. She mentioned that she would get my information and that we would talk about it after the class.
I told her that, as we drove all the way there, we would like to stay. In the class, there were 2 instructors and 2 other toddlers with their parents. We had taking swimming lessons before at another locations so we knew what the class was about. Instructors didn't seem to know what they were doing and one of the other parents were surprised that the class was outdoors too.
After 15 minutes of class, all families decide to take the kids out because it was freezing and they were shivering.
After we get out and change, I went out and talk to the coordinator and she tells me that she talked to the manager and they say that because I went into the pool (when she was the one who offered it in the first place) , they can't give us a refund. They offered us credit for the reminding of the lessons towards the membership (when I had already mentioned that we didn't live there and that we weren't interested in continuing).
I am sure this wasn't the coordinators first day working there and I'm pretty sure she knew the policy. She basically tricked us and told us lies to get into the water, knowing that we wouldn't get anything that way. She should have told us up front, not to get into the pool so we could get...
Read moreLEAVING HERE UPSET! Update! 3/02/2023 Tried to use the childcare and they couldnt handle the amount of small children in there and we could hear our daughter sobbing, after abot 21 minutes we left and were charged for the full hour, they have not been very considerate or helpful at the levels of management thus far. Awaiting a call back.
ORIGINAL REVIEW:So there hottub is broken, empty, no date on when it will be working... they've removed the sauna and the racketball courts inside. The skatepark many years ago as well. It has been a place I've gone to since I was a very young child for child care and has been on a steady decline. Sad to say. Even the childcare is OVERPRICED, at 36 PER CHILD PER MONTH. At $6/per hour per child the maximum $36 monthly is per child NOT per family and thats over $100 additional a month, if i want to bring my kids during workout friendly childtimes which are only M W F 9- 11am... won't allow you to switch which child can attend the childcare as part of the $36/monthly threshold. I am part of a family membership for which I am grateful but this facility is the only option locally with a pool. The pool is not child friendly and they ALWAYS have the lap lanes up, even during "family swim" which only allowd my small children and I to wade around the stairs or one length of the pool. They've been twice (ages 2&4) and are already getting very bored and prefer to play in the hot showers over the pool it seems. YMCA you can do SO MUCH...

This place is awful. Nobody wipes the machines when they are done anymore. Its disgusting. People sitting around scrolling away on the phones. Nobody enforces the rules. I waited 8 minutes for a senior citizen to get off her phone then use the machine.
Then the pool staff.... someone that doesn't know your child or has ever interacted with them to pass judgment and make negative comments about your child right in front of them. Sir you are a teenager, do not speak on anyone's child. The swim lessons always start late and finish right on time. 100's of dollars down the drain. Still can't swim. Does not feel family friendly at all. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^::^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I would love it. But i feel like there is a unwritten plan. I do not feel included. Almost, if i am an uncomfortable unconvince. For the price it should feel way more inclusive. Some of the seniors are very entitled and rude. I only have a limited time to work out. A couple of older gentlemen have told me, "i cannot use the equipment because they "planned on using it". Not cool. Not acceptable. I can't tell grown adults how to act. My son is doing swim lessons there. I want to n be comfortable doing classes here. We are here to stay. I want to feel...
