5 stars bc I loved being there. It's really great especially for newly graduated high school alumni. Being in college as a very young legal adult is very important. There is, however, a few things I need to address. Tuition waived for born citizens plus financial aid on top of that is great but considering how much the cost of living is it's really not realistic the way it's set up. Basically as alumni I feel I have the duty to publicly make aware any kind of glitches par se. The certifications available for the various majors & the curated general education available depending on assessment is great if you can afford it. Meaning (as cliche as this sounds) in addition to the waived tuition, I had to figure out how to make my financial aid enough for my rent for housing, plus utilities, plus food & clothes & hygiene & transportation, etc. Obviously the response to that is get a part time job if you're a full time student (which is possible). What I'm saying is if you're a young adult undergrad going to school full time the only job you can get is a part time minimum wage job & unfortunately for me minimum wage at that time was only $7.00/hr. I was however able to get a part time minimum wage job for $7.50/hr plus free food (bc it was a restaurant) but there were no benefits & that's still not enough for the cost of living. Basically you have to be super privileged to even step foot on a college campus. Every little bit helps. Meaning you need a source of transportation, money for food, housing, etc all that. If you dnt have any one of those things, u will not b able to graduate bc the obstacles accumulates. I just feel that the way it's set up is not only do u have to b super privileged but it's also assuming that if something weird happens not only will u b able to report it but they per se will do something per se about it which they dnt. Like they say u just have to b smart. & I think it helps just hearing from other ppl networking trying to make the world a better place for future generations. What I'm saying is these r the things that needs addressing. Maintain the greatness but also make improvements by fixing whatever obstacles placed that way we can see a higher graduation rate & hopefully fix the school's credibility (which they ddnt have at least even I went). & also some of the teachers gives bad grades to students they're jealous of but there's a teacher review website for that so hopefully that is utilized. Anyway everything seems so corrupted but it's our duty to maintain the momentum of progression for future generations so it's really important that stuff like that per se gets addressed...
Read moreUpdate Veterans, you should expect to micromanage Michael Romano along with the entire staff related to Chapter 35. Don’t rely on email and if he or they respond saying he or they sent off the verification, make sure you get the confirmation directly from the VA before you walk out of any office.
A lot excuses coming from every direction - the solution here would be to hire a full time VA representative whose sole responsibility is to certify and take care of Veteran students. It’s really not difficult, but when a college is woke, this tends to happen.
As a POST 911 injured combat veteran, my child decided to utilize benefits from my service. The Veteran Rep - Michael Romano is very difficult to work with. He doesn’t respond to email or phone calls regarding requests to send in verification to the VA. When he does, it’s because we cc’ the registrar. This has caused my child’s health insurance to lapse during Christmas break and has also caused a VERY long delay in receiving Chapter 35. It’s not difficult to process requests. My other child is using chapter 35 at UCSD and has never experienced issues this bad. It’s unfortunate veterans and their beneficiaries are getting this type of treatment at DVC. I would welcome a sit down or call to discuss in person in order to mitigate this issue. Our veterans and their beneficiaries...
