Placed an order online, got a text it was ready for pickup, didn't think to check my email. That was my bad, I get there and there's only two packages of pens when I used their buy two get one free deal. No big deal, I just wanted to ask how the vouchers would be returned and what would be refunded, or if they wanted to fix it some other way. I'm used to a partial refund or a rain check when they do that from other Michaels stores, as it's a sale made with the expectation of buying more to get more.
No, they weren't going to do anything, sorry, you just don't get the free one. The cashier treated it like it was no big deal, and I got a bit frustrated then and said fine, I wanted to do a return so I'd have the earned vouchers for another sale. Rather than asking me two questions - did I pay cash and if so how much - she made me wait for a manager to make sure the return price really was all zeroes. (I had paid with my vouchers only, as I have racked up several and wanted to use them before they expired.)
The manager then rudely assumed me to be the problem, and that I wanted money or didn't know how the vouchers worked. No, I know how they work, I simply wanted the vouchers refunded to my account because I wasn't getting the deal I thought I was. She then proceeded to treat me like an absolute idiot and kept repeating herself.
Between the rudeness and constant lack of selection, I would suggest any other Michaels. There's a great one in Grand Rapids that I would much rather drive for. Every time I come to this one, there's less options, more expired crafting products (always check their resin) and more rudeness from staff who cannot be bothered to ask questions before jumping to conclusions.
I'd give zero...
Read moreI did a little pre-shopping research on Michael's website and found several items I wanted to purchase so I headed to the store. I bought five items; after my purchase I had that funky feeling that the total purchase price was more than I had anticipated.
In the car, I checked my receipt against the prices on their web site. Three of the five items I purchased were substantially different than the price on-line so I returned to the store for a price adjustment. It took one staff member and two (supposedly leadership) others to sort out the discrepancy. I was told that I should expect on-line prices might be different than prices in-store. Yes, that had been the case for one of the items. . . it was a penny more in the store but, that's not even one of the three out of five that I have a problem with. I'm talking DOLLARS different.
We checked that the same brand, same size, same color of the items matched the web site; however, a staff member pointed out that their inventory numbers did not match therefore they would NOT match the on-line price. These were durable goods, not affected by season or expiration dates.
This is a VERY deceptive sales practice. The staff were pleasant and empathized with my frustrations but did not make the common sense decision to sell me the items at the prices advertised on their website. I ended up returning my entire purchase because I can't abide doing business with a company using such disingenuous business practices.
Customers BEWARE, it isn't enough to make certain you are buying the EXACT same item as you see on-line, you'll have to check internal inventory codes, too! Better yet, shop...
Read moreMicheals is a great craft store. They offer a reward point system for money spent while shopping as well as a variety of digital coupons that I enjoy and appreciate. They have a good selection of paints, colored pencils and markers, which is what I generally get from there. I would have liked to see some more daniel smith watercolor 5ml tubes, but was happy that they had some there to buy open stock. :) The case for the markers that were to be locked was left open early one morning, I was happy to tell the lady stocking that she needed to lock it up. Signs of understaffing and lots of work needing to be done. But overall, I love craft stores like Michaels and encourage anyone feeling artistic to go check it out. See what you can find that peaks your interest. They have calligraphy kits, model kits to paint, diamond painting, beautiful jars and cases to store items, canvases galore, and...
