Fall FoliagešŸ‚+Indian Cuisine🄘 in St. Johns

Despite active neglect from the City of Portland, this park shames civic leaders by being a gem. When it comes to city/civic services, North Portland, particularly the Peninsula and MORE particularly, St. Johns, is not only neglected, but abused. And that's for basic services such as utilities and public safety. When it comes to parks, the area is even further neglected, and city leaders outside of NoPo must HATE that the most beautiful bridge in Portland, with the most creatively sited park around is in this part of the city. Come marvel at the high gothic arches of the St. Johns Bridge, then stroll beneath them amid the similarly arched concrete bases, all the way to the riverbank. Walk out the swimming dock and look up directly at the bridge in awe. Now, imagine that the city invested a fraction of what would be needed to maintain drainage and the lawns. Keep restrooms and water fountains clean and in working order. Develop and run programs in the wide open spaces here. But, then it might be crowded with "outsiders" from other parts of the city. And they might move to St. Johns, and the as-yet least gentrified part of Portland would cease to be so.

Cathedral Park is a hidden gem in the heart of Portland. Nestled under the stunning St. Johns Bridge, this park is a true oasis of tranquility. The iconic Gothic arches of the bridge add a unique charm to the park's landscape. The lush greenery, river views, and the gentle sound of the Willamette River create a peaceful atmosphere that's perfect for a leisurely stroll, a picnic, or simply unwinding. The park's historical significance, with remnants of the old Portland St. Johns Railway Pier, adds an intriguing layer to its character. It's also a fantastic spot for photographers, offering picturesque vistas at any time of day. Whether you're a local looking for a serene escape or a visitor exploring Portland's beauty, Cathedral Park is a must-visit destination. It effortlessly blends natural beauty with architectural marvels, making it a peaceful retreat for all to enjoy.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the stunning Cathedral Park, and I must say, it left an indelible mark on my creative adult soul as it has been many years since my previous visit. This hidden gem nestled beneath the majestic St. Johns Bridge is a true haven for artists seeking inspiration and tranquility. The park's most striking feature is undoubtedly the iconic St. Johns Bridge, which serves as a breathtaking backdrop for any artistic endeavor. Its Gothic architecture and intricate details make it a masterpiece in itself, and I found myself captivated by its grandeur. The bridge's reflection on the calm waters of the Willamette River creates a mesmerizing scene that is simply begging to be captured on canvas or through the lens of a camera. Hands Down One Of The Most Beautiful Parks In All Of Portland!

~ Don't miss out on the majestical beauty and good vibes of this historical park! It is a must visit! ~ Great place for weddings, in fact there is one about once a week. ~ Water enthusist? Well they have a boat ramp with a huge parking lot, and a beautiful waterfront with a floating dock for fishing, swimming, and setting out to kyack. Me personally, I love enjoying a fresh bowl or cold cider while feeling the waves go under me from the ships passing by. What a wonderful view and experience! ~ Dog lover? Well they have a beautiful large off leash dog park separate from everything else, right by the secret room under St. John's Bridge filmed in the TV show Grimm. I don't have a dog, but I find it to be the perfect place for my weekend workouts, and the community dogs love to play with me. ~ Never seen a train up close? Perfect opportunity to get lots of pics up close and personal, take all the selfies you want! If your crazy like me and my friends, you can even cross train hopping off your bucket list...when the train is moving slow...at least that is recommended. ~ Lots of space to do whatever you want, from MMA training to making giant bubbles and flying drones. So much space that many music festivals are hosted here, like the Blues Festival every summer. ~ The people that go here are always super duper delightful, they absolutely radiate that wonderful St. John's Good Vibes! I šŸ’–...

Beautiful space below the green arched bridge that is used as icon around Portland for just about everything. Too bad no one can make all these businesses pay a small stipend to keep the maintenance done here. The original building was done under budget with surplus put in trust for upkeep. Should be goodly sum as that was 1931. The arches of this bridge gives the park its name.

During the 1980s the space was used by the city and the locals wanted to use it for more esthetic reasons... Just like with the bridge the community came together and made it happen. The park remains useful like today. Walking. Gawking. Picnicking. Unwinding from day's cares. Park benches here.

No camping allowed. Rest rooms sometimes locked. Trash cans not always emptied. Shameful it is too that the view to the west bank especially is ruined by cranes and other industrial works. Quite a few are less than delightful for our environment.

Swimming not recommended at some times. Postings tell when Portland's sewer overflows. TV folk warn during those times. Huge water bills here and we still have troubles. Be aware during the big rains. Current winter sunny times is not historically the norm. Otherwise. Watch your step or pick up pet's...
