Five Stride Skate Shop — Attraction in Portland

I know, I’m not going to be popular for this review, but this business needs to get it’s act together, and understand what being community member is instead of just a place to buy things. I needed one simple favor, to exchange a pair of skates that are brand new and carried by the store. I told him I would be willing to pay half the price of a new pair of skates, I have the receipt from the manufacturer where I purchased the skates. It would be nothing to send these back to a wholesaler if that were the problem. But it’s not the problem. This is a local business that thinks that they are better than other businesses and will not help a community member. This is why people shop online. Because you cannot get decent service in a local store. For all of their friendliness and cute skates they sell, Make sure you never ask them for a favor because you’re not gonna get it. They are going to stick to their capitalism and try to get every penny out of you they possibly can. I highly recommend, skipping the store and going somewhere where they actually care about your business.

And this message and experience will quickly spread to every skater in Portland. Lame Five Stride....

My daughter was looking for roller skates.

I wanted to make sure she had a quality skate and through many days of research and chatting with friends she had an idea of what she wanted.

Our whole family is filled with entrepreneurs who are also fierce supporters of small, independent, locally owned businesses. We had to go check out Five Stride.

We entered the store together and were greeted immediately. The vibe was fabulous and I was delighted by the soulful soundtrack gently playing in the background.

We proceeded to receive exceptional customer service as well as an education on some of the different skates that could fit my daughter’s needs. We also were given an unbiased review of the low priced skates my daughter initially considered buying online.

I knew we were in the right place and was delighted when my daughter fell in love with the last pair she tried on.

I’ve tried buying skates online and also at a shop that didn’t have the specialized expertise that the folx at Five Stride have. Let me tell you, what a world of difference it made coming in here, versus trying my luck elsewhere. The person who helped me started out by asking me what kind of skating I’d like to do. They then measured both my feet, to find the size best for me. My feet are quite wide (especially for how small they are) so I was able to try on a couple different sizes & brands to find exactly what would work for me. I went with the US-made Moxi Lolly on principle, but they have skates to fit every budget, style, preference & seriousness. I will absolutely return. This place will be my go-to when I need anything Skate. As a beginner, I did not feel out of place or condescended-to. They are patient and welcoming. I hope you find them as helpful and...
