Kern Park Flower Shoppe — Attraction in Portland

I called a million florist shops all over Portland, but it was Holly who stopped everything and sat with me on the phone to situate a standing order for my mum. I called back the next week to confirm deets and again it was Holly, right there, ready to answer all of my questions.

Sidebar: Normally I get crickets or hard eye-rolls when I mention that I hate carnations (I think we can pretty much all agree that Burger was one of Carrie’s worst boyfriends) and baby’s-breath (thanks to Mr. Tom Ford who once mentioned how he and Richard were constantly pulling the filler-flower from arrangements after moving to Italy). Instead, Holly gave me a great big laugh, and I could feel her taking notes: No carnations or baby’s-breath. Ever.

Born and bred PDX, I was raised by Nordstrom, and the treat-you-like-family customer service at Kern Park has me thinking that when they’re not serving up fantastical blooms, members from this fifth-generation institution teach classes on selling with emotional intelligence.

Adding a bit of serendipity to the mix, I lived in Japan for several years and just realized, after watching Fumi San’s legacy video on the site, that the art of Ikebana runs deep at Kern Park. It all makes so much sense now. No one — and I mean no one! — can compete with the meticulous precision and attention to detail of my Japanese brothers and sisters. Full stop.

The Nippon connection double-confirmed for me that I chose wisely, and I’m honored to have Holly & Co. adding a gorgeous pop of color to my mother’s room each week. For as long...

I like to buy my wife flowers for important dates and sometimes just for a surprise. I have also used a lot of Portland-area florists. My old stand-by was Old Town Florists, but since the pandemic, I wanted to try and support a more hyper-local business. Saw the reviews for Kern Park and decided to take a shot on (3/12/21), as I needed same-day service. They totally delivered an amazing arrangement for my wife.

Look, I hear you. Florists are expensive and good florists are even more expensive, but if you are looking for a quality arrangement, with a friendly and helpful staff, and flowers that last more than a couple days, you would be hard pressed to get a better florist and delivery in the South Tabor area than Kern Park.

I've included a picture of the arrangement. It came with beautiful lilies too, but I'm allergic to the pollen (I didn't specify that when I ordered), so those have been removed and re-gifted to someone who loves them. :)

10/10. Will be using...

I ordered these for our daughter-in-law who is caring for our 16-year-old granddaughter who is recovering from a stroke at OHSU, Doernbecher's, and Randall's Children's Rehabilitation Hospital. These stargazer lilies were to bring Carrie some much-deserved peace and love throughout our family ordeal. She LOVED THEM! Her message to us was:

"These are honestly the very BEST flowers I've EVER received! 😍 They are gorgeous, stunning, and they smell BEAUTIFUL. Thank you so much and I love you both very much!"

Thank you, Kern's, especially Holly (the owner) for the GORGEOUS arrangement and your kind phone call "after hours" to discuss the lilies. ❤️Your personal attention/customer service and empathy were blessings to us, and you gave Carrie a wonderful birthday, especially during very challenging circumstances.
