I've been to many yoga studios in town and all are really good -- we Portlanders are very lucky to have such great talent! No need to leave your own neighborhood. Sellwood Yoga is in my neighborhood and I started going there about a month ago. I've found the studio very well organized, clean, well appointed, and convenient. Street parking is free. Prices are competitive. The staff is friendly and casual, there's no big trip happening, and my classmates are the same way. Normal voices and down-to-earth people. I was noticing today how the studio is clean and simple, there's nothing extraneous, but what's there is well done, functional and beautiful. Everything you need is there. The floor to ceiling studio glass doors open onto a courtyard garden. Oh yes, the classes (although for me, a large part of being anywhere is the ambiance/terroir/vibe!). Classes, of course, are offered at many different levels, at convenient times (for me), and there are regular appealing and relevant workshops. The teachers encourage us to not stress our bodies, to pay attention, and to not strain in any pose. They seem well trained and care about their students. They've been very helpful during class if you need a head support, a blanket, or to find a variation of a pose if you have a tricky shoulder, or hip I recommend...
Read moreI'm new in town and so happy to have Sellwood Yoga in my neighborhood. The studio is beautiful and I really appreciate the variety of offerings on the schedule. I'm a long-time yogi who is facing knee replacement surgery, and am happy that there are classes that can work for me now, like the pilates classes and the MELT method classes, and will look forward to being in the yoga and strengthening classes post surgery. Both of the teachers that I've experienced are knowledgable, lead a well sequenced class, and I can tell that they care about both the art and science of their craft. As a former yoga studio owner, I know what it takes to have a well-run studio and I think Sellwood Yoga has put it all together with great...
Read moreI just moved to Portland and was looking for something new that could mesh with my fitness goals. I am quite new to a yoga practice. I found Sellwood Yoga online, but it was then recommended by my neighbor. What a discovery! I've tried a couple different classes and found the instructors really strong and helpful...especially since I didn't know much about the vocabulary, or types of practice. I was hesitant to "perform" in what could be a competitive environment...absolutely not true. Even as a rank beginner among experienced folks, I felt very comfortable and the groups have been very welcoming. And, I sustained a bad injury (at home) and the teachers have helped me continue while I recover. I highly recommend...
