Thai food is my go-to. I’ve enjoyed amazing food all over Portland and the US, even in the humblest of surroundings.
The two stars here are for the ambiance and presentation.
I’ve been to Lahanna twice in 2 years for dinner, both times at the request of my dinner partners. The setting is beautiful but the service slow and disorganized, and the food, although beautifully presented, disappointing.
I love the bright fresh flavors, rich sauces and amazing soups of Thai cuisine. We ordered the salad rolls, Tom Kha, and a curry and drunken noodle entree. All were bland with none of the flavor and spice we were hoping for...even when adding some from the relish tray. The foundation just wasn’t there.
The service was also disappointing. It wasn’t busy but there was nowhere to sit because there were no clean tables. We waited 7 minutes for acknowledgement after walking in, then another 10 for a table to be cleaned and be seated. It took another 8 to receive menus, another 15 for a drink order and another 20 for a food order and again it wasn’t because it was very busy, the waitstaff werent even visible. I always order medium and ask for the relish try to customize spice level.
The food arrived all at once, hastily delivered by someone from the kitchen, but we still had nothing to eat it with. With no help in sight, I finally went to the back area and got some utensils, napkins, and a relish tray. By the time we got to eat, the food was cold, it wasn’t prepared as asked, and my companions soup was the wrong one and the sauce with the appetizer was not the one on the menu,
No one came to check on us till 35 minutes later, and we’d barely eaten anything. When we expressed our disappointment, we received a polite apology, but no offer for a reheat or remake so we could get what we ordered.
It took another 20 minutes to get our bill, and after waiting another 10 for containers to pack up the food we finally just left without it.
Won’t be going back...

I mean, we've went back a couple of times and the only thing that's been consistent is the fact that the food is good and the service is really...bad. They have weird hours, and they're quick to point out how important it is that they close on time. We came into the restaurant at 8:15 once and they would not seat us until they made it clear that they closed and 9, and they basically tried to convince us to leave before finally seating us outside. The server came to the table only once after serving us food, and that was to remind us, again, that the restaurant was closing and that we should eat quickly.
The taste and quality of the food was completely overshadowed by how bad the service was. We haven't gone back since that time, and have pretty actively tried to avoid it since.
If you decide to brave the bad service, I'd suggest the Pad Thai. It's...
Read moreUpdate: 5/9/22 Kip brought me here for mother's day dinner.💖 When we first arrived there was only one other table. You order at the register and pay and then get your food delivered to your table. There was one lady who was working the entire front of the house. As Kip and I sat there the place became very busy. Still only one young lady working the front and answering the phone and taking care of the to-go orders. As well as delivering food and drinks to the tables. The food was good but the service could have been better if she had had more help.
Has nice outside seating... Our server complained about a hurt ankle that is was hard for her to walk.. Maybe why she had bad guest services.. The food was okay.. My yellow curry looked like they used a bag of baby carrots Didn't even try to cut them or blend.. Also there was russet potatoes chunks in my...
