A place to shoot is a great range. I think the staff is great and willing to help with anything. I also really appreciate the fact that they take COVID-19 seriously. Julie is great and always cleans surfaces after people use them. Prices are fair. I mean most targets are .85 cents to 2 bucks. I bring ammo since 380 ammo is hard to get but 5 dollars a box is also fair. I recommend this range for anyone who is new or extremely experienced at shooting. New review 2024- I have been loving this range. The owner is great!!! They keep the range clean and prices are more than fair. With my membership I usually pay 25-35 dollars per visit. A few boxes of center-fire rds and 100 22lr. Best in Portland

Went today for the first time. The employee at the counter is really nice and friendly. They have VERY affordable ammunition and paper targets. Those of you that complained about that in previous comments, you do know they are a business and have to make money, right? I am happy to support them since they are the only indoor gun range near me. Bought the year membership since I will be going back multiple times. Also, they do clean the stall after each person has used it. They wear masks and provide gloves for those of you concerned about that. Below is their hours during this COVID pandemic. Thanks for being open and can't wait to go back!

It took my a long while to stop in at The Place To Shoot. I love a short distance away, so it's quite convenient. However, I've been shooting outdoors for years which allows me to do drills from the holster and while moving. Doing so, however, requires a lot of driving to get to a suitable place. My first visit to The Place To Shoot sealed the deal for me and I bought an annual membership. I'm still able to work on aim and can do the rest of my training and long gun stuff when the weather permits. They do have a tactical range that would allow most of my handgun drills, I cannot justify the cost; gas pencils out to be cheaper.

Unfortunately, I have to give this facility one star and wish I could give zero.

Where do I start? First, the pros: it's a really clean and organized range. Probably the cleanest I've ever shot at (and I've shot at many ranges over my 20+ years as a USMC Infantry Weapons Officer Ret., as an active LEO, and as an owner of a Firearms Training Company in SoCal). However, I question their cleanliness. Is it because no one shoots here due to their frivolous rules and fees? Or is it because the area is full of walking zombies high on fetty (fentanyl) waiting to window smash your vehicle? Either way, this is the only pro I gave this location.

The cons: First, their non-member fees are $35 per person, and any additional person on the same lane is another whopping $35! Other ranges charge a full fee to the first shooter and add a reasonable fee for an additional shooter. Next, they charge $5 for every 50 rounds of ammo you fire. God help you if you're trying to work a skill to improve your performance on demand. My typical range sesh's are 200 to 400 rounds. Third, you have to purchase their own targets. I shoot USPSA competitive matches so I couldn't even use my USPSA targets. Lastly, this "Fudd" owned range doesn't even have proper "zero" targets to zero a red dot on a rifle or pistol. If you're going to be advertising CCW, basic, or advance shooting classes, get up with the times and know which targets and training is relevant.

After realizing how much I was going to pay to zero my son's optic on his handgun that I installed, I ended up zeroing his pistol without him. He wasn't even allowed to be in the lane with me so he could at least watch and learn. They wanted to charge me $35 for him to watch.

Needless to say, I will never have my child spend his hard-earned money on this dump. They are going against the grain with the 2A due to their rules and fees. Instead of shepherding shooters into this facility, they're pushing them away. It was evident to me when I saw two other shooters other than me while they had another twenty-something lanes not being used. This range must be an undercover liber@l-ran range to keep gun owners away with their ridiculous fees and rules.

If you're a supporter of gun rights, 2A, conservative shooter, don't support this place. And to top it off, their AC doesn't work! Worst range I've ever had to spend...

They are very friendly and helpful. They have even gone as far as giving small impromptu lessons to beginner shooters in the group.

Their fees are set up for casual (once or twice a month) shooters, if you shoot more one of the places with higher membership fees and no lane fees becomes a better value (like PSTC).

Wanted to address a few things in that long winded rant: 1) Problems with the fees? See above. 2) Why demand that all ammo and targets be purchased there? Like they said, to make some money. It is a very common practice at indoor ranges in Portland. Would I prefer to shoot my own ammo? Sure, but if I want to shoot indoors then it's the norm in good'ole PDX (PSTC and BeaverCreek Armory also require that you purchase and use their ammo). Also, I think you don't know the difference between "mark up" and "jack up". ALL business need to "mark up" their prices, if they didn't all they would be doing is giving stuff away and making ZERO money. If they buy a box of ammo for $12 and then sell it for $12, how much money do they make? $0.00. Please don't give ANYONE business advice because you seem to not know the basics of how to make money. 3) Why don't they rent guns to individuals? Are you serious? The issues is people using gun ranges for suicide. At one point in 2009 in Florida there were 3 of these in just a few weeks. You use google, try a search you may be enlightened.

I'm not saying this place is the best thing since sliced bread, just hate when people spout things out...

I was there to get my 16 year-old son some firearms safety instruction. The staff are very laid back and Nick did a great job teaching my son the important safety aspects of pistol shooting. The class was easy to schedule and reasonably priced. In response to the reviewers who have cost issues; yes, they do charge for targets and ammo. Yes, they will charge you a "corkage fee" to bring your own ammo in, but the charges are not obnoxious. If you are an occasional shooter, the markup should be no big deal. If you shoot 3 times a week and have your own guns and ammo, there are a number of indoor and outdoor ranges at private clubs in the area. Each place has pluses and minuses.

I am a former ISSF competitor looking to show my son how fun shooting can be. These guys are running a business and are serious about the things you need to be serious about and mellow about the rest. My ONLY complaint (and it's minor) is they have a fairly limited selection of rental weapons. I would have liked something more accurate, but I get that is not the reason most people would go to a place like...
