Village Silversmith — Local services in Portsmouth

My first and LAST experience took place at this shop today. I went to go check out the shop with my sister to take a peak at some rings and immediately upon walking in, the older female store clerk was staring at my sister and I and giving us a dirty look (the accusatory kind as if she thought we were going to steal something) just because we are in our mid twenties. This made for an uncomfortable shopping experience in general, but we decided to try and look past it and look around. I even asked for her help. I tried on 2 rings and immediately gave them back to her and she still acted frazzled as though I was about to steal something. It was honestly ridiculous, and demeaning. Despite this terrible experience I still thanked her for her time and my sister and I left. This woman then watched us walk out only to yell down the street at us to come back and had the nerve to ask us if we stole A FIFTEEN DOLLAR ring. It was the most unprofessional display i’ve ever seen in my life. My sister and I both walked back, opened up our purses, and said go ahead and look. I love village silversmith. I’ve been going to the Salem and north shore stores for over ten years.

Today I visited the Portsmouth location for the first time and while they had a good selection (I did make purchases from the counter displays) I couldn’t get anyone’s attention. There was a worker speaking with her boyfriend for about ten minutes and I felt uncomfortable interrupting to ask to see case items.

Usually the other stores offer to clean items and when I asked they seemed weirded out by that?

I’ll still come back but I just hope that the workers know it’s weird to have long convos with partners while customers are very obviously waiting...

Terrible cheap quality made from China. They purchase their stuff bulk from the gem shows. Very rude staff who are clearly not trained in customer service. I agree with the other reviewers with regards to the accusatory nature of the staff and how they treat customers like they're going to steal something. Not a very pleasant shopping experience or inviting atmosphere.
