I came in and asked for a 2 month membership since I would only be here for 2 months. I told the people at the desk, who look like they're in highschool, that I don't want to pay a yearly fee and I don't want to bother canceling so I can leave and not talk to a person.
They set me up with a "month to month" plan and charged me an extra $5 monthly for this option compared to the $9.99 on the door. Good deal, $15/month, I didn't need to sign anything. They took my card, and I thought it was all set. They gave me an IPad and told me to fill out the details, and I was doing a safety release form. "You don't sue if you hurt yourself." That's what the form looked like, and there was no mention of payment agreements.
Anyway, all was well. A month went by, and I was charged the price we discussed, I went more. It's a fine gym, never overcrowded when I went, equipment was clean and working. I only ever saw an out of order sign once, and it was for maybe 2 days. I would give 4 stars for the gym quality. They just need a bit more space for warming up, stretching, the main area for this is used for trainer group events, leaving little to no space except a corner in front of a busy door.
But it's 1 star because they lied to me, then ignored me when I brought it up.
I was told my membership is month to month with no additional fees because I'm paying an extra $5 a month. After my 2 months, I moved, and two things happened. #1 they charge me $60 for a yearly membership. Well, they tried to, but I canceled the card. #2 They tried to charge a late fee for my member ship going into default ($30). Again, this was a month to month that I specifically told them would be only 2 month. I got a call from some collection agency in India. The man, who barely spoke English, was rude, condescending, and threatened to charge me more if I didn't pay him immediately. It was a shakedown and pathetic one at that.
I told him I never signed a contract, and so he sent me a "copy."
On the "copy", there were some issues, first of being I had never seen it before. The part of the form agreeing to the yearly membership required initials and was blank. The price listed on the sheet at $15 per month and the signature agreeing to it wasn't my signature, not even close like a digital touchscreen. The area for the membership agreement was a completely different signature to the first one. Two different people forged my signature in two different places. WILD
The man on the phone told me to call they gym. I did, now a total of 3 times. Each time, I was told the manager was in a meeting or out for lunch or not in. I've left my name and phone number each time. I've yet to be called back by them. I get emails being told I owe a balance every other day, which I ignore. I'm not going back. I never planned it to begin with since I moved again for work as planned.
I hope to God they send it to collections or try to collect further so I can sue for fraud and get a pay day out of it, but truth be told if they just called me back with an apology for the BS signup FRAUD and clear away the nonsense charges from their books I would be happy to take away the review letting people know they have and probably are lying to you at the front desk about the price of their service and fees related. Then, I'll leave a proper 4* review saying it's a well-kept run of the mill gym with great classes, helpful staff, fun benefits, and a good group of...
Read moreRead the membership agreement before you sign anything!! Your membership automatically renews after your contract is up without having to notify you. Crunch also has the ability to raise your price once a year without notifying you. Verbal cancellations are NOT honored, if the employee you spoke to says they will cancel your membership and they forget to do anything or document anything YOU are obligated to continue payments and you will NOT get a refund. To cancel, give them written notice or send a written notice via certified mail so there is documentation. The customer care phone number listed online is not in service. The cancellation line is outsourced to India and has odd and inconsistent scheduled work hours. Good luck getting a refund because as of July 1 no one, either at the local gym or the number given to you for refunds and cancellations, are "authorized" to do so. Also if you cancel your membership keep in mind there is a 30 day notice, so you will be charged double for your last month of service. By all means go to a different gym!! Crunch is a slimy corporation who makes their money by using impossible membership agreements and conditions, paired with poor communication, making dealing with them nearly impossible. Please learn from my mistakes and use a different gym. They stole $167.93 from me, it got to the point I had to change my credit card number just so I wasn't...
Read moreI’ve been a member since this gym opened and it’s been a great experience. I use it mostly for the group fitness classes. I don’t have any experience trying to cancel like other reviewers, but I don’t know why I would.
I have the top package and the monthly cost is less than 2 classes at a specialty studio, or a monthly Peloton equipment subscription. I get unlimited access to fitness classes (and there are many to choose from), the instructors are great, they switch their programming seasonally (great for someone like me who easily gets fitness routine boredom), and I can bring a friend anytime I want. Yeah, it’s loud, but nothing a decent pair of earplugs can’t fix, and what group fitness studio isn’t? The music from spin sometimes disrupts the peacefulness of yoga class, but it’s not a yoga studio, so just set your expectations or spend more $$$ to join that yoga studio if that’s what you need. That being said, they did just bring on a certified yoga instructor and are adding power yoga to their schedule soon due to the popularity of yoga at this club.
I’ve found management to be very responsive to suggestions for group fitness changes, they continue to get better all the time (Thanks Amber!) I can’t imagine finding a better value anywhere if you like group...
