We came to Raleigh for the State Fair this last Thursday, enjoyed it, but the prices there were too much for us. We left the Fair for the Art Museum to see this chamber. Lovely setting back in the woods. Squirrels skipping about. Trail from museum to get to it is pretty short. Don't recommend this for anyone with mobility issues as footing in a number of areas in the woods can be tricky. Once inside the chamber, allow a few minutes for your eyes to adjust to the darkness... visual effect in two of my photos. It's a real shame that juveniles have tried defacing this lovely piece. A nice officer chatted with us to discover our intentions and told us about it. Why in the world would anyone hurry its demise? It can't be replaced. Such behaviors speak of delinquency, carelessness and a complete disregard -- or lack of knowledge -- of the value-added of art such as this in our communities. Please allow this chamber to exist in peace.

A little known gem--enter the cloud chamber, close the door, and let your night vision acclimate for a few minutes. You'll see a beautiful projection of the clouds and surrounding trees on the walls/floor through the pinhole of light coming through the roof. Super cool experience!

Fascinating piece that offers a unique view of nature. Be sure to enter and close door for full experience of the camera obscura

The Cloud Chamber for the Trees and Sky, a whimsical art installation that doubles as a camera obscura, is indeed a real place, but it seems there's been a mix-up with its accessibility. While it's true that the trails to the chamber are not a roundabout of free movement, the chamber itself is not always open for cloud-watching shenanigans. It's like the chamber is playing hard to get, only revealing its skyward projections during certain hours. So, if you're planning a visit, it might be wise to check the actual opening times and not rely on the chamber's flirtatious whispers of being a 24/7...

This Cloud Chamber is so interesting to me! I came here for a field trip with my photography class and I was super intrigued by it. I definitely want to go back! you go inside and shut the door of the chamber and on a sunny day light will pass through a small hole in the ceiling and the trees outside will be painted...
