The large dog area is certainly better, both due to thr city providing structures and shade plus the bug dog owners donating toys. Ground cover is basically bark chips and dirt, so you'll need to at least brush your dog off.
What really saves this place are the communities. Two groups meet in the large dog section (small dogs are apparently welcomed if they can handle the big kids), with knowledge, friendly, and supportive dog owners.
One group meets most days starting at about 4pm, and another meets Monday/Wednesday/Friday at noon. If this place had real bathrooms instead of a porta-John, astro turf, and more stuff for the little dogs, it'd be better, but because of the communities, it's certainly above average.
Edit: Maybe be careful at 4pm, at least on weekends. There was a small dog that bit mine, causing them to bleed, and some of the others almost seemed to know it...
Read moreTried our 12 lb chihuahua terrier mix at Rancho Caninos dog park in RPV for the first time last week 10/2020. She loved it! The small dog area doesn't have dogs in it quite often, but usually one or two will come along if you spend a little time there. This was great for our dog Penny, she's a rescue and we've only had her a few months. We weren't sure what to expect her second time off leash in a new park but she loved it. There's a center gate between the large and small dog areas so you can join large and small dogs if you want. There's a public portable loo on site and fresh water faucets and bowls for both doggy areas along with poop bags and poop bins. We love this park and it's definitely less busy than the Redondo dog park on Flagler...
Read moreWas pleasantly surprised to find this dog park so close to my parents place. Came for the first time today and had a blast. Coming from chicago this dog park is loads bigger than anything i ever visited in the city. Wood chips aren't ideal but the park is kept clean by owners and maintenance, I didn't see any poop anywhere.
Around 10am there were about 5 dogs in the large play area and non in the small. All the owners were super friendly and responsible for controlling and cleaning up after their dogs. I was informed that 11-12 and 3-4 are the busiest times and it can get a bit crazy around then.
I'll definitely be taking the dogs here whenever I'm...
