Update: start the trail in reverse. One side of the trail is more desert mountain terrain and the other has a “hidden forest” vibe. There’s lots of high grass along the trail so be mindful of where you plant your feet. The trail is pretty decently maintained and there are lots of smaller trails that break off. You could easily spend an entire day just exploring. Finally got to this location on a quiet day when there was relatively no one else around. Trail was difficult to navigate but I think that was on my map and inexperience not the location. The river near the bridge is beautiful. Not much shade so make sure you come prepared and I heard several rattles nearby so I’ll be getting a snake bite kit before heading out again.

This is a really fun trail/loop and still very manageable. It’s never crowded and there are a number of forks in the trail, so you can switch it up slightly. There aren’t any incredible vistas or viewpoints but lots of nature to see. In the past, I’ve seen small rattlesnakes and even a mountain lion up on the ridge. This time, I was with my 5-year-old son and thankful to have not stumbled across either of those. We did, however, have a rabbit run across the trail just a few feet in front of us and, of course, saw lots of birds. The loop is about 2.4 miles but it’s pretty flat and the trails are well maintained so we were able to complete it rather easily with a short break to rest our legs and eat a snack halfway through.

As an out and back trail, you can just go as far as you're comfortable and turn back. Very little shade so highly recommend thin long shirts and pants to protect from the brutal sun. Bring a decent amount of water but temperature was pretty comfortable in mid-August. The trail is mostly sand/dirt so be prepared for your shoes and pants to get a layer of dust. The views when you get to the water / reservoir is quite nice though. Lots of parallel trails some which are easier than others so keep that in mind.

This is a National Wildlife Refuge. The rules are clearly posted. NO DOGS allowed off leash..The majority of the dog owners who us this trail are truly a bunch of disrespectful low class citizens . 90% of the dogs I see on the trail are OFF LEASH. The trails are narrow and winding. You walk along and all of of sudden you have dog smelling your private parts. You tell the owners their dog needs to be on a leash and they just shrug there shoulders and say I know and continue down the trail letting their dogs run free. You see dog poop all over the place. On the ground ,on top of rocks in plastic bags. Why is it that you own a dog and that makes you above the law? Go to an off leash dog park if you want your dog to run and poop free!..Not here..I will be carrying a big stick...

Please don’t come here, the trail is HAUNTED! I’ve never felt creepier vibes from anything in my life! I came to hike with some friends in the morning and we found bags of headless rotting goats. For those of you who don’t know goats are used in satanic rituals and I’m not sure what was going on here but we believe that they were used for something bad. We decided to keep hiking because it was early but the the whole we were hiking it felt like there was something watching us. We only made it half way before deciding it was too creepy to keep going. So we ran back to our cars and the goat body’s were still there. Just be careful coming here alone and especially at night. Just don’t come here at all. I didn’t want to take pictures and post them because I didn’t want to...
