Great dunes... the people that ride there are crazy.....like the trail to the beach has 2 areas where it's really only big enough for 2 atvs to pass and up and down kinda mogals for off roading...yet idiots will go flying threw these areas at over 30 mph and zip all around you or spray sand tword you trying to slide sideways to stop....they fly down the beach and chase the birds....one set had to of hit at least 2 gulls slightly as they barely get up flying and go all weird and go off to the side fussing with their feathers like they are hurt but run away when we tried to see if they had any problems... we could only see from 30 or so feet......not cool......big thing this year was the trail behind the front camp spaces have been blocked off by a few timbers along the one side....kids would go off 30 or 40 feet in a wrap around trail so you could camp super close to kinda your own private spot and let kids play a bit but safely away from the craziness of the big dunes where people go flying up and down with no ability to SEE whose coming straight AT THEM on the top or crest of a hill....NO ONE sets up a look out at the top of a big hill....people crash into each other or fly over barely missing other atver's .....do end over end because they are flying over hills not knowing where the hill crests are or IF there...
Read moreWe rode our RZR here for four days. We never saw the same trail twice except for the trail down to the beach which we used often. Unspoiled views in every direction as far as the eyes can see. The terrain is varied. It consists of everything from towering dunes of perfectly fine sand that you can climb and explore for hours on end to woodsy trails through the forest breaks between the dunes and the ocean to riding uninterrupted for miles up and down the beautiful undeveloped beach with not another soul in sight. A true nature lovers dream and a dune riders dream as well. Definitely something for everyone. The wildlife is abundant. We spotted too many birds of varying species to keep track of them all. Please be wary of the Snowy Plover as they are on the endangered species list. Ride with caution when you see these beautiful birds as not to disturb their...
Read moreIf you want to have the experience how it is in the desert, this is a must do. We were there on a hot day without clouds. We felt the wind, the blazing sun and walked through the sand. It is very exhausting to walk up the dunes because after every step you slip down again. After half an hour you sweat and empty your water bottle. The landscape is gorgeous. You can see the ocean in the distance in front of you and the forest in the back. You don't have to exactly follow the trail. This enhances your experience being somewhat lost in the desert. The shape of the scenery makes this even easier because if you go down a dune you will loose the sight of the wooden posts which are marking the trail. The beach finally comes as great reward. I definitely do not want to have go back to the parking...
