A nice regional museum of local and natural history located on the Umpqua River in Reedsport. You will find two exhibit halls, a gift shop and a theatre. The first hall features the history of the region from the native Kuuich tribe, to the early explorers and the pioneers, and life in an early Tidewater Town. The Tidewaters & Time Hall is very interesting with the history of the Chinese in the local canneries. The second hall is on the local animals and natural history such as the sand dunes. A indoor trail takes you through the different environment such an estuary, a forest, a mountain meadow, the dunes and a weather station. The Pathway to Discovery Hall is very interesting with information on bears, elk, clouds, and an education room with videos. Outside is a Totem Pole from an old mill that was carved by Lelooska. You can walk around the boardwalk to view the river and the bridge. Currently open 11AM -4PM, Wednesday - Saturday. A cafe is next to the museum. A great place to spend an afternoon in Reedsport.

Stopped in on a Wednesday afternoon right at the end of August. I was pleasantly surprised by this interesting little museum. My 3 sons all had way more fun than they anticipated when we pulled up. Both sides of the center are very well done and engaging for everyone. The bear cave and subterranean theatre were the standouts for my sons. If you're in the area and like this kind of thing, this is one of the better. 8 bucks for adults and 4 for children over 5. Pretty good value. We spent about 45 minutes exploring the center and the docks out back. The lady at the counter was friendly and informative. The gift shop has lots of interesting items for kids and adults alike. There is also 2 restaurants attached to the area via the docks.

The whole museum was set up as an immersive experience with beautiful murals, props, very real looking native plants and trees etc and wonderful sound effects along with interactive education opportunities throughout. It was very enjoyable and a fun museum experience for kids as well. All exhibits were in good condition and I was able to read labels with low vision and it was also very accessible and thought out for wheelchair. There are several great seafood restaurants neighboring the place. I would however, offer a senior discount because many of our incomes are not keeping up with inflation.
