WARNING: The majority of reviews are false. Users posting multiple reviews. I truly want see a restaurant like this be successful especially in a small town like Reedsport but unfortunately the Big Fish, is a BIG FLOP!
The good: place has a great view!
The bad: Been there 3 times. (I won't drop a rating unless I have been there at least 3 times). Once we were treated with respect, service was great. Stopped by another time on motorcycles and was treated horribly. Owners target demographic is and I'll quote him, "Doctors and Lawyers." Ironically we had a Doctor and lawyer riding that day. They won't be returning.
The owner sounds like an arrogant used car salesman that boasts about his wifes food and his restauranteur background. Unfortunately the dinner fell short.
Scampi was 8 shrimp in a watery butter bowl with a scoop of rice on the side. Flat iron was murdered with butter, barely edible. Clam chowder was very, very bland. Table next to us was denied wine with their dinner because they had cocktails on their table. It's an old Oregon law no restaurant enforces. But then the table on the other side of us ordered shots. The shots were delivered to that table even though they had cocktails on their table too! Hmmm. The owner is clearly unfair and biased.
Some say people on the Oregon coast dont have a refined taste palate. This could have some truth to it, but very average food and mistreating customers is a bad combo for any restaurant or business. Hopefully, the owner changes his business tactics, or the place...
Read moreWalked the dog down to the riverfront to check out the chainsaw competition. Both of us were pretty worn out by the time we got there, so decided to stop at Big Fish, see if they had fish & chips that I've been craving and if they'd let my big girl on the deck while I ate. Very nice server asked the other 2 tables, they said yep, the doggy could join the deck. Ordered the 2 pc halibut fish & chips ($15.75 very reasonable). Also had cod as an option. Server lady brought Daisy a bucket of water and me a glass! Brought a cute little flower pot with fresh bread, half white, half brown, so good!! Food came quick and was perfect! Big pieces, lightly battered, just golden brown, so crispy outside, nice and flaky inside! Also the fries were amazing! Steak size, crispy outside, so soft, like a baked potato inside. Little cup of Cole slaw (with pineapple) nice homemade tarter sauce, and lemon wedge. Very pleased, after finding disappointing, mushy, fishy fish elsewhere, I've found the perfect fish & chips place! Daisy highly recommends the bread and fries! Service was impeccable, everything was clean (think we left some long white hairs behind), ambiance was cute, on the river, definitely will recommend and come back to try other selections. Maybe without Daisy, so I can check...
Read moreBig Fish Cafe and Dinner House owned by Ron & Jennifer is a dining experience unique in its seasonal, fresh caught, locally sourced culinary creations by Chef Jennifer and in its abundant coastal related art by Ron. The duo knows how to welcome you to their location and make you feel at home. The restaurant sits above the beautiful Smith River at the NE end of Reedsport, with expansive views from the various decks of this refurbished Coast Guard vessel reclaimed and refurbished to a nautical dining destination. Our foursome enjoyed a special of the evening, freshly caught halibut crusted in crushed macadamia nuts with a honey lime "butter" topping. A medley of vegetables and a rice pilaf accompanied that meal. Freshly baked bread in a mini flower pot is served for the table. One guest had the pan sautéed oyster while another guest ordered the chicken Tikka Masala a not too spicy dish of deliciousness. Do not skip dessert! Chef Jennifer has daily temptations posted on the chalkboard. Reservations are recommended. Enjoy the food, views and exceptionally friendly service while you relax with the rolling river.
