Brave Captain â A Voyage Worth Takinâ!
Ahoy, mateys! I set sail for Brave Captain with me olâ sea dog (me Dad, that is) and came across a true gem of a galley! The patty melt I feasted upon was as delicious as a bounty of treasureâperfectly grilled bread, a melt-in-yer-mouth patty, and cheese as gooey as a krakenâs grasp. Me Dad agreed, sayinâ he'd give this fine establishment a solid four stars, and that be no small praise from a seasoned sailor such as he.
The service? Now that deserves a toast of grog! With just one fine crewmate workinâ both the bar and the tables, they were quicker than a schooner with the wind at its back. This deckhand kept everything runninâ smooth, tendinâ to tables and fillinâ glasses without missinâ a beat. A round oâ applause for such swift and friendly serviceââtis rare to find such dedication in a lone sailor!
The atmosphere? Well, it be a sailorâs delight! The blue walls, nautical decor, and that fine painting of an old salt behind the wheel set the scene for hearty tales and adventurous feasts. âTis a place where one can imagine the creak of a shipâs timbers and the sound of waves lappinâ at the hull. It be warm, welcoming, and fit for a captainâs table.
However, a small note for the crew and patrons aboard: keep yer voices at an âinside tavernâ level, aye? A quartet oâ lads at the bar were jabberinâ so loud it was like a storm brewinâ in the galley, makinâ it hard to hear me own Dadâs words. A little courtesy for yer fellow adventurers would go a long way, methinks.
In conclusion, Brave Captain be worth its salt! Good food, fine ambiance, and exceptional service that would make any captain proud. Just keep yer shanties low and yer spirits high, and all aboard will...
Read moreI was working nearby and needed to find a late lunch spot. Walked in and had the place to myself. The overall theme here is seafood as you might expect from the name. The Brave Captain seems to refer to Capt. Quint from the original JAWS movie. His portrait hangs prominently behind the bar.
So think of all the classic JAWS cliches and catch phrases you know and imagine those as the inspiration for a menu. "We're going to need a bigger boat!" comes to mind. I say this because the portion sizes are HUGE, like Great White Shark HUGE! Lots of seafood choices to pick from, with options for grilled, blackened, or fried
My flounder sandwich had three fillets stacked on top of each other as well as a decent serving size of cole slaw piled on the sandwich. I ordered fries, but probably didn't need them as the sandwich would have probably fed two people. I managed to eat the whole thing however, and it was a multiple napkin meal. Just a little messy as many good meals are!
Lots of rotating menu specials I was told by the staff member who served me. Also had a great conversation with him musing over some nostalgic maritime and fishing memories which fit right into the Captain's backdrop.
Located on an unassuming corner near VCU, those students are lucky to have an actual legit seafood restaurant nearby. Definitely worth the trip. I look forward to...
Read moreThe oysters I had were the best oysters I have ever had. My husband had blackened tuna and it was delicious (though he was having a hard time deciding whether mine was better.) to be honest it is a little hip and music is slightly on the moderate level so it was great for us for two people- we leaned in to talk- but it was a lively atmosphere. I know this place is new. Welcome Brave Captain. You are so worth the trip from Short Pump. We will be back. Also, there is a table that can seat maybe 8 in the front window with only three other tables- just so you know. But...
