My name is Mike Murphy. I’m a blind, disabled Army veteran, born and raised in Albuquerque. As a kid, I attended Legacy Church on Central off and on, and I’ve always appreciated Pastor Steve’s bold, biblical messages.
Now that I’ve moved back home and settled in the Rio Rancho area, my fiancée and I were looking for a church to plug into—a place where we could hear the truth, grow spiritually together, and be surrounded by genuinely godly people. To be honest, I was a little skeptical when I heard that the Rio Rancho campus was in a movie theater. I wasn’t sure what to expect.
But wow—what an incredible surprise.
We attended our first service this weekend, and the experience was nothing short of amazing. As someone who’s blind, my hearing is extremely sensitive, so I was especially grateful that the praise and worship was at the perfect volume—not too loud, but still powerful and moving. The atmosphere was filled with the presence of God, and every staff member we met was kind, welcoming, and full of genuine joy.
The guest speaker, Pastor John, delivered a bold, truth-filled message that fired me up spiritually. I love that Legacy isn’t afraid to speak the truth in love—even when it confronts the lies our culture pushes. This church stands firmly on the Word of God, and that’s exactly what our city, our state, and our nation need right now.
I also had the blessing of attending the Forged Men’s Conference this past weekend. It was powerful—hundreds of men worshipping, learning, and being transformed together. The Holy Spirit stirred my heart, and I rededicated my life to Christ and was baptized. That moment will stay with me forever.
I’m beyond excited to continue growing and serving at Legacy Rio Rancho. If you’ve been hesitant about church or unsure where to go, give Legacy a chance. It’s not just a church—it’s a movement. Come expecting truth, healing, challenge, and the unmistakable...
Read moreLegacy is a tremendous "church" for those who won't be easily offended by the truth, meaning the whole book. Legacy doesn't disregard certain pages or messages like so many other "feel good" churches. Legacy preaches real life lessons without all the fluff. Pastor Steve and Pastor Bryan keep it real at all times and stand up for all Christian values. Mr. Grant.....your review below is full of hate and very untrue regarding how Legacy only cares about money. My wife would still be in a wheelchair if it wasn't for Legacy paying for her in-patient medical care out of state when we were struggling financially. Or....how about the fact that hundreds of dying children have been given their last wish through Make A Wish Foundation thanks to OUR money...."our" meaning the good people like my wife and I who tithe our income to Legacy. If you want everything in life free of charge due to an entitlement issue, than you wouldn't fit in here anyway. ;)
Legacy has turned my life around after being saved. Pastor Bryan has been an awesome Pastor. I greatly thank him and Pastor Steve for everything they have done for my family and if push comes to shove......I'll be standing in front of...
Read moreThis church is the heart of the city and goes above and beyond to bless the community through things like elderly care packages, providing food packs for kids in school, supporting other organizations, and hosting community events for the whole family to enjoy! Legacy Church is a church that you definitely SEE in action.
Legacy has always been my church home, but coming to the Rio Rancho campus was a game changer! This theater is not just a building, but it's a place for our family to gather and worship. I am beyond grateful for the ability to connect with God, grow and maintain healthy relationships with other believers, and learn to live generously with all of the blessings I have been given. Pastor Steve Smothermon and his team are making a difference here in New Mexico! I...
