The historic courthouse is beautiful. It is a working museum, where you can transact business in a working museum. The courts have had their budgets cut more and more every year, so they are understaffed. If you call by phone, it is very difficult to get to where you need to get too. This is true for everyone. The judges have very heavy case loads as well, so they are trying to move cases along. Attorneys are getting fined for not following rules and cases are getting booted out as well. If you are a member of the public looking for help from the court, it is not going to happen. The court is neutral, you don't get the cold shoulder, you get a neutral response which you will find feels like the cold shoulder, but there is some value in the responses you get. For example they may say you need file a proof of service or your case cover sheet, or something else. The law library "caddy corner to the courthouse" it has a lot of reference material that can help consumers in things like evictions and divorces. There are also several legal aid clinics which helps low income persons, and the self help workshops held at the law library. The US bankruptcy courthouse a couple of blocks away holds self help clinics for bankruptcy staffed by volunteers. There is a lot of help available from third parties, just don't expect it from court staff, there job is to be neutral and processing...
Read moreAbsolutely horrendous experience. I would give this court zero stars if I could. Let me start this off by saying, if you are going to fight a speeding ticket here like I was trying to do, HIRE A LAWYER!! Do not try to fight it by yourself like I did, these judges (and cops) are more than EAGER to find you guilty. The day of my trial the officer that I was going to trial with was EXTREMELY unprofessional, rude, arrogant, and condescending. He made a point to single me out in the court room and started trying to discourage me from going to trial. When we were called up to start our trial, the judge let the officer state his case and show his "certifications" to use a radar (which were over 10 years old). When it came my turn to speak, the judge would not let me finish explaining my case, interrupted me several times and refused to look at physical evidence i had supporting my case. He then proceeded to demean me (which he did to no one else that day), called me a liar and spoke condescendingly to me in front of the entire court room and found me guilty. I wasnt even at the podium for a full minute. As a final offense, the officer eagerly ran over to the door to hold it for me, making very snarky faces while doing so, as If he wanted to rub it in. These officers and judges are nothing but dishonest, power tripping, and money hungry, so ready to charge you insanely so they can make a...
