I chose this Hampton Inn for two reasons: One, it was relatively close to the Ontario airport and my business for the week was in Riverside, which made it close to where I needed to be. Two, the price was very reasonable. It may not have been the rock-bottom cheapest in the area, but considering that it's in California and right downtown, I was pleased with the rate. I typically pick hotels that are on the cheap end of the spectrum and hope for the best, and honestly, it usually doesn't work out great for me. But this Hampton Inn was a different experience.
The first thing I encountered was the parking. I will acknowledge that the parking rate is a little pricey at $23/day, however, for that price you get parking off the street that is very convenient. It's easy to get in and out. I'm sure you could also find street parking in the area and avoid the cost, but I didn't look.
Next, the front desk staff is awesome. In fact, every employee I encountered was professional, kind and helpful. I accidently showed up an hour before check-in time and they were still able to get me into a room right away. This may not have been the case if they didn't have a room available, but I appreciated that they accommodated my showing up a bit earlier without any hassle.
The room itself felt pretty luxurious. The sheets were fluffy and nice and I really liked the pillows. Enough that I took a picture of the tags because I might try to track down the same pillows. Pillows are obviously personal preference but I was a big fan. I made use of the mini-fridge and the iron and ironing board. The shower was big and had a decent shower head. There was no tub in the room but the shower was very nice. I had no complaints about the bathroom. Possibly the only thing I could comment on would be that there was no little bottle of conditioner or lotion. There was a couple bottles of shampoo, though. This didn't impact my experience very much, but would have been nice to have.
Overall, the room was nice and clean. I had a window facing west and could watch the sunset and see the palm trees and being on the 3rd story gave me a little bit of a view.
Lastly, the food here was awesome. There were many options for food and drink including waffles, eggs, sausage, bacon, fruit, yogurt, various juices, milk, coffee and more. I was here for two mornings and the options changed slightly on the second day for some nice variety. The coffee is on 24/7 and is pretty tasty, though I only tried one blend of the 2 caffeinated and 1 decaf available. Great breakfast and if this is a priority for you, you will not be disappointed.
I think that's all I have to say about this place. Compared to some of the places that my bargain hotel hunting has landed me, this place was luxury living. I would 10/10 stay here again. I don't know how the hotel star system works, but in my opinion there is no way this is a 2-star hotel. I haven't experience the full range of stars so maybe my opinion is skewed, but I would have to think this place deserves to be more than a 2-star place.
Thanks for the...
Read moreI stayed for the week of NYE and it was a nice stay. The room is nice and large (thank you for the upgrade!) and the location can’t be beat.
I was on the last flight of the night so didn’t check in until about 1:30am. Since I was so tired I thought the front desk staff said breakfast was over at 10am, but it was really 9am. For people on vacation who sleep in, this isn’t ideal. I appreciate the nice woman at the front desk who not only gave me cookies when I came down at 9:45am, but also thankful for the kitchen staff who said they hadn’t put the food away yet and I could fix a plate. They also have a 24/hr self-checkout market so I was grateful to be able to get something to eat and drink before bed when I arrived too.
The biggest issue was my shower hadn’t been fully cleaned upon arrival. I took a shower after getting to my room and unfortunately it was very clear the glass hadn’t been cleaned in the shower, there was soap scum and film all over the glass. NYE morning I requested housekeeping and was told due to the holiday they are short staffed and they would do a full clean of my room on January 2nd. They did do a GREAT job cleaning my room when they did come and I was able to get more towels from the front desk.
It should also be known that they charge $29/night for both valet and self park, but only $15/night if you don’t want in and out privileges. I wish this was on the website or at least presented as an option upon check-in. I did valet the first night then moved my car to a lot on 9th street with in and out privileges for $30/week. I would have kept it at the hotel since I didn’t need in and out privileges everyday. The walk is less than 10 minutes down Market and it’s across from a beautiful park with restaurants and an art museum along the way.
Since a keycard is used to get on the room floors (great security), no food delivery to your room, you have to get it from the front desk. I was already in my pajamas the night I ordered, so having to change to pick up my dinner wasn’t ideal. Being downtown there are great late night delivery options to the hotel though.
For streaming services they have Netflix, YouTube, and one or two smaller streaming service options I don’t remember the name of. On the day I stayed in my room for most of the afternoon, it was hard to find something to watch with the limited options.
For a staycation this hotel would be 3.5 stars but vacation it is 4 stars. Since everyone is so friendly, it’s a nice new hotel, and the location is amazing (easy walking distance to shopping, food and views of the historic Mission Inn, you can’t go wrong...
Read moreWe were recently in Riverside to attend a swim meet at Riverside City College. We chose the Hampton Inn Riverside Downtown due to its proximity to the campus, as well as to the restaurants in the area. ||When we arrived, the parking attendant greeted us and asked if we would be using the self parking or the valet. We were also told that the self-parking lot was located off site, and that it would be a 5 minute walk. Since both were priced the same at $29/night, we chose to use the valet. ||We checked in and went up to what we were told was our room. When we entered, the room appeared to be occupied. The beds were not made, backpacks were hanging on the coat hangers, and some clothes were on the floor. Luckily, nobody was in the room at the time. I immediately went back to the lobby to tell the front desk what happened. She was surprised and said she gave us the correct room. She asked if I was sure, and I told her "yes, I'm positive." She proceeded to tell me that she assigned the correct room and that her system shows the room was cleaned and available. It was almost like she didn't believe me. After a few minutes of looking things up in their system, she finally assigned a different room to my key, but never apologized for the error. This experience made me paranoid for the rest of our stay. Was someone going to come into our room by accident? Was our stuff safe? ||Once the issue with the room was resolved, I found our room to be spacious and comfortable. The window faced the east and had a fantastic view of the Mission Inn, a few blocks away. The beds were a little stiff in my opinion, but still allowed for a decent nights sleep. The restroom/shower was modern and clean, but I wish the water pressure in the shower was a little stronger. I didn't see any vending machines on site, so you will either need to buy from the little market/pantry in the lobby, or bring drinks/snacks from the outside.||There is a small pool behind the building, however, there is also some construction happening right next to the hotel, so it can get a little noisy. I didn't notice the noise from the construction in our room, which was on the other side of the building.||The initial room issue didn't give me a sense of safety, but overall, our stay at the Hampton Inn was decent...
