I had initially rated this place a 5 about 2-3 years ago. This place was basically perfect. You'd ask someone where to go for movies, games, and collectibles, and they'd tell you to go to the disc replay of Rockford. I have gone around a large section of cities, many miles in different directions. Even places like Chicago didn't have anything like this. Out of all the disc replays this was the best one. Up until recently. First off, the general vibe of the store. You walk in and you can instantly tell they're trying to come off as a TCG store, but with remnants of its previous incarnation. The far back of the store is the definition of a cemetery, it doesn't appear as if any living soul had ever touched grace in that general direction. Next up the prices, these are relatively fair I'll give them that. There have been times that I genuinely raise an eyebrow at some stuff, but other than the current prices of pokemon stuff, you can usually catch market value items, frequent deals, or even a steal. Now regarding the staff, they are nowhere near as welcoming or attentive as previous employees/management/owners, whichever it may be. Since I noticed the changes I have entered the store multiple times, rarely will I receive a hello, and never have I been asked if I needed any help. Half the store is behind the counter, not necessarily half the things you can buy but it's where the employees are. Exactly the way a TCG shop is, many are familiar with such layouts. So you'd think the employees would be more aware of customers and asking if they need something, or looking if they're interested in buying stuff, especially if they're by the counter itself. I am not one to only buy trading cards, but I do like them. I have been here on numerous occasions trying to buy something behind the counter but no assistance comes. Now can I go ask someone? Yes I can. But why won't I do it? The answer is simple, the employees, of which there are about 5 or 6 of them, are all across the other side of the store by the entrance, it's where the checkout is located at. I understand 2 of them being there, maybe all of them if there are customers who need help, but most of the time I have seen a single person being helped over there maybe two. They seem to be in their own world it almost feels like a high school lunch table. But again if I needed help, why not ask for it? That's not the point, a customer doesn't feel wanted or appreciated without someone asking if they need help. Now while I may be able to ask someone for help others may not. It could be due to timidness or inability to do so. It's something that the average person can get over, especially if you know that's just how the business operates. Unfortunately someone like myself who has been going here before they even moved next to GameStop, doesn't see it that way. Maybe I got spoiled by how the old employees treated their customers. But as someone who has spent hundreds if not thousands of dollars here, I don't see myself buying from here for the time being. This store sells amazing products for all kinds of pop culture enthusiasts, although there's a clear shift of where it's going. It's still worth checking out here and there. But when it comes to customer service I guess it depends on how you view it, or if they're feeling like paying attention. This review may come off as unprofessional or being overly frank, but I would rather voice my true opinion than to serve a water downed version of it. I truly hope that I can be proven wrong in the future and that I can restore the 5...
Read moreBest advice for anyone about this place, if you can find it next door, robins nest, or ANYWHERE else then get it there not here! I've been a customer here since it opened and it has gone downhill ever since. The selection has dwindled for everything. Anything of popularity is marked up past regular value. "Collector" items are marked up to the moon. Older vintage items look in terrible condition but are being sold for premium. The place stinks of urine, the counters are sticky and the merchandise gross. random music playing evertime im there with no consitent atmosphere. Disorginized selection and staff, 2 people always looking busy checking things in the back and one person to run the 2 counters no matter how many people are waiting. There has been times where i've left because i know it'll be a 45 min wait just to check out. Thats what happens when you got a bunch of kids running a guys basement. But Jake makes damn sure he checks on these reviews to let everyone watching know that he REALLY cares on what we have to say. He wont change anything about this store and the way he runs it untill it closes. So many people enjoy and like the products this store offers. Its sad how much he doesnt care about his customers, only to tell them how much he cares over their frustrated review. My last experience is why im writing this and before you comment Jake remember this isnt for you its to warn other people of your practices. Bought 2 games, associate grabs the games and i open a ps2 crash bandicoot copy to find its an xbox case with an xbox game. Remember label and paper showed ps2. Sitting in ps2 section. Whatever there goes my money into store credit, now im locked in to spend money here because of their mistake. I go home to play my second game, it doesnt read. The disk looked like it had been polished with sandpaper. I bring it back and the associate says "oh i should of used a finer disk". There goes more money into store credit again. He brings me another disk of the same game and it has a crack in it. So does no one check these things anymore? Quality is down the drain. Over the last 2 or 3 years ive been the only one buying these packs at the store. One associate sold me as many as i wanted because there were stitting there for a long time. Back to my store credit, i purchase the last 2 boosters out of the box and ask if i can buy the promotional pack (usually gifted if u buy out the box), he says no it wasnt there. I looked before getting helped and saw it in there. So after getting lied to and the associate nervously finishing my transaction i left that sespool of a store vowing to never come back and spread the word. Read moreThis store used to be a joy to shop in. Blu rays were displayed more or less like an old blockbuster where the cover was facing outward. This was because they had more shelf space. However now because the store focuses more on collectibles, the blu rays and dvds are just stacked on shelves that are 7 feet high, making you read every individual title to find anything. There used to be employees who were hired specifically because they had value to add to the store, such as people who knew about cult movies and would make a section specifically for that. Now (no offense) it seems like they’re all just funko pop collectors who don’t really know much about most of the items in their store. As a former employee of this store I also know that the stock of such things as cult movies depends on people bringing them in to sell so I’m not critiquing the store on stock but rather the lack of ease in navigating the store which used to be so well organized thanks to focused management. The shelves are even so close together now that there’s maybe 2 and a half feet of walking space. I remember at the old location, it was much smaller, but yet still more open. The reason for moving to the new location was more space, which seems to not be being utilized properly. I would just suggest to management that they re focus what they want their store to present itself as. Because it currently advertises as a movie and games store where you can also sell your movies and games. People who don’t know about collectibles come here for movies or games and are disappointed that there is so little focus on the presentation of the hundreds of thousands of movie cases just endlessly stacked down crowded isles on account of the collectibles. I’ve brought people here warning them of this and they’re still surprised when they get there. This may be a personal thing, but I don’t think so seeing as how everytime I go there I’m playing leap frog with everyone else in the isle while trying to read tiny text on cases. No hate intended to any of the employees or the store, I just hope this criticism is looked at legitimately and considered because I want this store to be as great...
