My fiance and I purchased my engagement ring and wedding band from Mervis( Rockville location) and I am so happy to have met Sonila! She is so attentive and makes you feel so relaxed and comfortable about the entire process. I have been to Blue Nile and to Helzberg Diamonds in Tyson's Mall and Mervis by far wins on all counts(customer service, time allocation, personal shopping experience, quality of merchandise etc). At the other stores, I felt so rushed and the sales folks were so concerned about theft of inventory that my experience felt rushed and like a meat market. In my opinion, large purchases such as this are not a quick process and more importantly you need to try things on, look at it in the right light (natural light), magnifier etc.
Considering you are making a significant purchase, as a woman, I want to try many different options and then try them again and compare and not feel frustrated by sales folks having to take the rings away from you so fast.
Also I would say that when I shopped for a ring by myself, I was not treated as a serious client in other stores, as most couples come together to shop. Sonila treated me very nicely even as I went alone to the store and offered very good advice given her vast experience. I was looking at an insert type setting and an engagement ring, but once I talked to Sonila, her advice to maybe consider individual engagement ring and band made so much more sense, as far as wearability and options down the road.
I could not speak any higher of her! She truly is a gem :) and Mervis should be grateful to have her onboard! I'm so grateful.
I also like Mervis's policy of total freedom when it comes to when to come in to inspect and clean your jewelry (essentially you can go as many times as you want in a year, not on a 6 months basis like most other stores and then if you don't go you lose your warranty etc).
Another reason why I chose Mervis is because they are an authorized dealer for Tacori, a brand you don't find in too many places in our area.
I love my diamond and the Tacori engagement ring I got. My favorite place before Mervis was Jared, but when I visited them more recently, I saw that their quality went down from how they used to be 8 yrs ago when I bought a few pieces from them. Back in the day, LeVian pieces were not available for sale everywhere and Jared had a nice selection.
To conclude, if you go to Mervis you will have a totally different shopping experience than anywhere else. Sonila will help you every step of the way and not rush you nor push you in any way.
What a great person, what a great store! I am...
Read moreAfter coming from a spa relaxation day, I decided to try Mervis Diamond Importers to confirm my ring size and see if they had any different engagement ring styles. My partner and I have been ring shopping at various stores in the DMV area.
Unfortunately my experience here was very disappointing. I walked in and was standing at one of the counters waiting. A female associate greeted me and said please give us a few minutes and someone will be with you. This particular female was already working with a gentleman. While waiting another customer, also female, walked in behind me and immediately another sales associate went directly to this female and starting assisting her, completely ignoring the fact that I was there and next to be assisted. I stood there quietly and slightly in shock to see what would happen next. The first female associate then came out and stated no wait this lady has been waiting and is ext to be seen. Honestly, I was turned off at that moment to even continue with my interaction but being that I was in such a euphoric and relaxed mood from the spa, I engaged in brief discussion about my purpose for being there. Then I was asked to have a seat and someone will be back to assist me. While sitting there, the recent interaction began to not sit well with me as it started to become more clear that I was overlooked based on my ethnicity and being the only person of color in the store. I decided to leave without any service and felt it was important to wrote this review. For all they know I could have been a secret shopper reviewing their store or someone wanting to make large purchase. Regardless of any reason, Mervis YOU HAVE GOT TO DO BETTER!!
This one instance has tainted my thoughts about your brand and any other franchise stores that you have. I do hope this review gives you pause and makes you reconsider your customer service skills with people who...
Read morePROS: Friendly, professional staff. Very accommodating; they want you to be happy and they will do everything they can to make that happen. My fiancé and I strongly recommend Brenda Friedman!
CONS: Beware of in-store resizing! While their staff may know what they're doing (in terms of extensive diamond and metal knowledge), I am not convinced that their jeweler(s) is at the same level. I had to have my band corrected (twice!) after a terrible in-store resizing. The first time, they returned the ring to their jeweler.. who presumably tried their best but could not fix the problems with the ring (visible scratches near the top-sides of the band, misshapen/uneven band post-resizing, etc.). Ultimately, the ring had to be sent back to the designer who ended up making us a brand new ring (thank you, Ritani and Mervis!!). Brenda was our go-to throughout this entire process (along with Nancy, Kris, and others) - who were all very friendly and professional throughout the entire ordeal (Brenda even responded to emails while she was on vacation! Kudos to her!).
IN CONCLUSION: Mervis can surely help you find the ring you are looking for, and will go out of their way to make sure you are happy with the results - we definitely recommend them over Jared, Kay, etc. However, I would steer clear of resizing your ring in-store. If your ring requires resizing (or repairs), ask that it be sent back to the designer, or be sure to know your fiance's ring size (Mervis will happily measure their ring-finger for you) prior to purchasing/ordering the ring. You and your fiancé will be much better off!
All in all, I am [now] very content with my ring, and I am so glad my fiancé...
