I think this place has a lot of potential, but it just didnt hit the mark for me. First impression; this place is so beautiful, its probably the nicest looking, most instagrammable asian cafe around the area.
That being said, my experience was a bit dissapointing (though i will definitely come back in a month or so when the workers get a chance to become more seasoned and use to stuff).
I ordered the apple mousse slice and a shanghai fog. The apple mousse slice was pink, it tasted like strawberry, and it was still frozen. While it definently did not taste bad, eating frozen mousse is just not as satisfying (not as decadent and creamy) as mousse which is normal temperature. My friend got the fluffy cheese cake (japanese style im guessing) and it was also a bit dissapointing. I feel like it was supposed to be a jiggly, fluffy, Japanese cheesecake, but it is was a bit too dense and a bit on the bland side as well. Finally my other friend got the creme brulee. Im not an expert at creme brulees, but this one actually reminds me of a nice japanese milk pudding. Very silky, milky, and velvety. This was my favorite thing we got, even though it might not be best classified as a creme brulee (more on the lighter side like a creme brulee flavored milk pudding). A nice touch for customers dining in would be if they retourched the top of the creme brulee a little so it gets that classic warm hard caramel shell.
My drink (the shanghai fog) was okay as well. I didnt know it was going to come hot, but it did. And I was told it had a milk cap, but what I got was milk foam on top. I felt a bit mislead, so I will definently ask more questions next time!
I really wish this place had better descriptions of their drinks. The menu they have behind the cash register is aesthetically pleasing, but its not very useful. The line takes some time to move at times becuase the customers have so many questions regarding the menu. Descriptions of drinks, sizes, and cold/hot clarifications would have been greatly appreciated.
Overall, like I said it was okay. I wanted to love the place (And I still do), so I will definitely come back. Its still new so its totally understandable, but I hope they step...
Read moreI was so excited to try the soufflé pancakes after reading about them online Upon arrival it was unclear how the self service works, but the Asian cashier informed us and we proceeded to order. He sparked conversation saying Beyoncé didn’t deserve to win Best Country Album at the Grammys because it wasn’t “real country”. Which is odd because the Grammys were 2 weeks ago. I kindly asked what “real country” means to him, and he had no response. It was completely coded in “she’s black” but he wouldn’t say it to my face. After ordering we asked if we need anything to know when it would be ready, and he said no I’ll bring it to you. We ate and enjoyed the self service pastries, but 30 minutes had gone by waiting for the soufflé. Multiple families and couples came in and we witnessed them all getting pagers for their order. The cashier then proceeded to bring out 2 soufflés to an Asian family that had sat down 5 minutes ago. I asked him if it was ours before he gave it them, and he said no ours was coming. The couple that was waiting behind us in line, then received their soufflé as well. Another 15 minutes went by, and the cashier said 5 more minutes. At this point I feel as if they forgot the order completely. Another 20 minutes went by and the family that received the two soufflés brought their pager to the front because it was going off. BECAUSE THEIR SOUFFLÉS WERE NOW READY. We had to go to the front for the 3rd time to ask where our food was, and the order there was still not ours but they gave it to us because the guy with the pager said they got there food a while ago. Ended up needing to take it to go since it was so late.
No acknowledgment of the issue from any manager or cashier. He purposely didn’t give us a pager, denied that the ones he served the Asian family were actually ours and didn’t apologize once for the mix up. It wasn’t even that busy since it was 5 PM. We were there for 1.5 hours and spent too much money for this experience.
Highly disappointed in the establishment and think they need to train their employees to treat all customers fairly. We won’t...
Read moreDecided to give Teamania another try after trying it when they first opened years ago. Since I recently tried the other “soufflé pancake” spot that opened in Rockville a few times, I decided to try Teamania’s version again as I remember trying it before an being underwhelmed.
The service: we were told that it would take about 15 minutes to prepare the pancakes. We said that was fine and waited. After 20 minutes and seeing many other people receive their pancakes (one couple who came in after us included), I was starting to feel a bit confused. After waiting almost 40 minutes, I went up to the manager who was at the counter to ask about my order. They told me that it was normal for it to take 30-40 minutes, to which I responded that the cashier told me 15 minutes. They then told me that they miscounted the number of pancakes to make in their last batch so we were regulated to wait with the next batch. I asked how much longer the wait would be and they said another 5-10 minutes. So in the end, I waited 50 minutes for the pancakes. I was very disappointed in the lack of accountability by the staff/bakery for their mistake which led to an extremely long wait. They didn’t acknowledge the frustration and acted as if this was not their issue.
The food: we ordered the soufflé pancakes with pistachio ice cream as well as a milk tea. The milk tea was very watery and flavorless. Do not recommend at all. The pancakes themselves were WAY too eggy in flavor. I’ve had many soufflé pancakes in Japan, throughout the US, and other countries and none tasted like this. It was like eating egg white meringue. I saw another table whose pancakes were a deflated, sad mess so there was definitely not uniformity in their production. The fruit on the side was canned peaches, which tasted gross and were not a good complement. The pistachio ice cream was not made by them but it was fine.
Overall, I will not ever return to Teamania because of the bad tasting food and bad service, nor would I recommend to others. If you want soufflé pancakes, Okaeri is a better,...
