This stadium was named after my late husband's great uncle, Harvey Sanders. He married Mary Walker and moved into the house off Washington St. She worked as a telephone operator and he owned a sandwich shop in the square. He was an assistant coach for the high school and if any students came to eat and had no money he would have them sign a book, whether or not he collected money, everyone was fed. Mary Walker's family had owned the "Walker Bros" store in the late 1800s and was a "pioneering" family of Rockwall. I gave all the historical artifacts I found in the house after Aunt Mary passed away to the Rockwall Historical Society. Papers showing Aunt Mary at the dedication of the stadium and given a football tied with the colored ribbons of the team. There were amazing things I found about Rockwall history, pictures of the original old courthouse, newspapers talking about the Rockwall Zoo! Photos of the Rockwall College, papers showing drawings of the "rock wall" and its investigations. Many forgotten things, like the boardwalk. Photos of the old 1888 house on Washington St. that showed outbuildings like a barn and an unusual kitchen that was outside. I notice on Google the old home is listed as being built in 1930s, that's incorrect. It was built in 1888, the first deed was 1930 or 31 when Uncle Harvey and Aunt Mary was "sold" the house from Mary's mother for $1. Before that, there are handwritten records I found in the courthouse describing the purchase of the land on Washington St. Interesting family history and I hope that the artifacts I gave the Historical Society are still available, and that whoever owns that house will discover its historical value to the community. The house originally had a historical marker, and we were on the yearly "Tour of Homes". Mrs. Teresa...
Read moreCame here to watch a football game with friends. Didn't think much of it but it was amazing. The telling the competition the wya you don't know whats happening but you know you are winning, the sadness when the other team is winning but then your team surpasses them and wins the game by just a tad bit.. let's just say I couldn't speak the same the next day and pretty sure I slept for like half a day because it was so insane. A great place to hang if you can go to a game, concession lines are long but food is amazing(also a tad bit expensive but nothing to ridiculous ) and yeah! It...
