This theater used to bring joy to my family and I, however its starting to feel a bit ghetto and trashy, which is strange being surrounded by million dollar lofts and downtown royal oak just not the vibe i want to be around imo. Coming up to ticket check and a Buncha guys are chatting, not even checking tickets at ticket booth, not even a greeting Anyone, they were more focused on what's good outside of work. Then greeted by popcorn all over the floor all the way to theater 6 in the back while i watch full staff all around trying to be cool and chatting rather than working and doing their job. Started watching movies and noticed large portions of the screen looked faded and / or scuffed pretty bad, affecting the quality of the movie, especially when the graphics mattered it was noticeable. The seats are always nice to recline and enjoy a heated session, but not when the theater is pumping major heat out and there are boogers and food residue stuck to the armrest. As we left the movie that same popcorn trail was still laid all over the main aisle giving a nice careless workforce feel to the place especially after 2 hours of no clean up and the same guys chatting together near the ticket booth. Is there a manager or owner that condones this work behavior and atmosphere 🤔 in such a higher end neighborhood? Looks like we will be driving to a different theater and watching the ghetto run this place into the ground. Best of luck, imagine you got your work cut out but if you want a clean respectable business in the center of downtown you probably should start creating a different culture so all of us feel comfortable and welcome.
Almost forgot the icing on the cake =as we leave guy peeing on the building right next to the front door of the theater. These people posting pictures on google are first thing in the morning when management is actually on prem and makes people do their job. the night turns into a real strange time. If it's allowed, it...
Read moreThis place is pretty amazing. Free parking for moviegoers. Very comfortable seating. A variety of viewing choices. Free refills for popcorn (yeah, the concessions are pricey, but that's part for the course)
Added Sept 3, 2021: Haven't been here since Captain Marvel came out. We had a bit of a struggle dealing with parking (the parking lot out front is now ruled by Royal Oak, & you're forced to download an app to pay). There's also a parking structure nearby, which is $5. Add that to the tickets & the price of concessions. I wish things hadn't changed, I do like the theater & it would be a great place to see Shang-chi...but I'll have to investigate the parking situation.

Royal Oak is really turning into hell for people who want to drive & not call an Uber. I passed the turn into the theater parking lot because CONSTRUCTION PARTLY BLOCKING THE ENTRANCE, had to drive around 2 blocks to find my way back to 11 Mile & come back, & made it into the parking lot entrance ONLY because I drive a small car. Parked in the parking ramp - the choice is sefin5pating $5 for parking or using an app to park in front of the theater & gambling that I won't get a parking ticket anyway. Then leaving, well, couldn't go out the way I came because CONSTRUCTION WAS BLOCKING ACCESS TO 11 MILE, so I went out to Main Street, where CONSTRUCTION WAS BLOCKING HALF THE NORTHBOUND LANES - had to turn right just to get out then go up to where I could turn left & get back to 11 mile by way of Washington. Then we were able to get the hell out of town. If it wasn't for the fact that we wanted to see The Boy & The Heron, & Emagine is a better theater experience than AMC, and my husband & I both had the day off & knee there woyld be very few people going to the first show on a Monday...well I prefer generally to stay the hell out of R.O. That's not Emagine's fault of course, I do really like the theater. It's just too bad it's in the...
Read moreOk, first off I just want to say this is no disrespect towards Emagine Royal Oak staff or the actual building. I've been coming to Emagine Royal Oak for as long as I remember and I've had a 10/10 experience every time. I love this location and it feels like home away from home (if that makes sense). Although the other day (10/03/22) I went to go see the horror movie SMILE with a friend. We ended up paying more for our tickets because we had theater 15 which was nice and cozy. I wasn't expecting to have to pay that much but I love Emagine Royal Oak and it's staff so I didn't mind. So to get to the point my main issue is that while we were watching the movie a mother and like 5 kids were there and the kids were being loud and disruptive as well as disrespectful towards others watching. They were yelling, swearing, on their phones with the volume turned up, and running back and forth between the only two isles in the theater. On top of that they were throwing food behind them and made a HUGE mess. It was really hard to focus on the movie and while I was annoyed I decided to just stick it out because I've never had a bad experience at Emagine before. I feel bad for the employees that had to clean that theater once we left. I was confused on why the mother brought little kids to see an R rated movie, even if the kids weren't scared they were still being loud and distracting. The mother didn't do much about it, she was recording the movie and posting it to instagram and laughing while her kids were running around. I have no problems with Emagine, again I love the theater and staff, but I don't understand why people are allowed to bring kids to an R rated movie. It ruined the experience for me and my friend. I always come back to Emagine but hopefully I won't have that...
