I recently visited Desert Oasis Coffee Shop in Royal Oak, excited to experience their renowned coffee and cozy ambiance. Unfortunately, my experience was marred by a glaring lack of accessibility that left me deeply disappointed and concerned.
The main issue I encountered was the complete absence of ADA compliant doors, preventing individuals with disabilities from entering the establishment with equal access. As a proponent of inclusivity and equal opportunities for all, I find it disheartening that Desert Oasis Coffee Shop has failed to update their doors to comply with ADA policy.
In this day and age, it is crucial for businesses to prioritize accessibility, ensuring that everyone can enjoy their services on an equal basis. It is not only a legal requirement but also a moral obligation to promote inclusivity. By neglecting to make their doors accessible, Desert Oasis Coffee Shop is actively promoting ableism and sending a distressing message that customers with disabilities are not welcome on their property.
I understand that some older establishments may face challenges in retrofitting their infrastructure to meet accessibility standards. However, it is essential for the management of Desert Oasis Coffee Shop to recognize the urgency of this matter and take immediate action to rectify the situation. Failure to do so not only undermines their credibility as an inclusive business but also perpetuates systemic barriers faced by individuals with disabilities.
I implore the manager of Desert Oasis Coffee Shop to prioritize accessibility and demonstrate their commitment to equal access for all customers. By updating their doors to comply with ADA standards, they can create an environment that fosters inclusivity and welcomes individuals with disabilities to enjoy their coffee and atmosphere at the same leisure as everyone else.
In conclusion, my experience at Desert Oasis Coffee Shop was tainted by the absence of ADA compliant doors, which left me deeply concerned about the establishment's commitment to inclusivity. I sincerely hope that the manager takes note of this review and promptly addresses the issue, making Desert Oasis a place where all individuals, regardless of their abilities, can enjoy a warm cup of coffee and a...
Read moreDOCRâs coffee and pastries arenât exactly my taste, but they usually get the job done. Sometimes thereâs a single origin I really like, but I notice their roasting style leans a certain way. The coffee does lean much lighter, acidic or brighter than other roasts at other companies. This means the cup isnât always balanced and smooth, which is how I like it. The baristas are usually your typical baristas, but definitely more aloof and behind that invisible glass wall, so to speak. Usually pretty friendly, though last week I had one who was a little short with me when I questioned (honest question) the size of iced matcha I received.
The decor here Iâve never cared for, as itâs always been this austere minimalism (same as DT and Ferndale)Thereâs always the same exact smell in this location, which isnât coffee, but something else, maybe chai?
Lastly the cheesecake is VERY cakey. Itâs their style, apparently. I get it when I want a different flavor I like (pistachio, pumpkin, etc) and they put a flavored cream usually in the deflated space of cake. (It works, but you technically shouldnât let the cheesecake deflate) so not my style, I wouldnât ever get it plain. And none of their other pastries really hit home either. Unfortunately my usual routine is to get coffee here and pasties from...
Read moreDessert Oasis is a really nice coffee shop, but after frequenting here many times, there are some things to be aware of: Coffee is strong and great tasting, and their seasonal drinks are lots of fun. They also have lots of flavors you can add; however, hot coffees are often lukewarm, and it takes a much longer time to receive your coffee here than at any of the other local cafes, Atomic Coffee, for example. There is one barista there is who is constantly micromanaging the others, and that is not only off-putting to see as a customer, but the micromanagement delays everyone's orders. It regularly takes me 10 minutes to receive a latte. I understand it gets busy, but even when it is not busy, it can take up to 10 min to get my drink. Which is then lukewarm. Atmosphere is nice and an okay place to do work, chat, or study. The seats in the middle are comfy and great for chatting, but if you're doing work, the seating is not that comfortable. There is wifi and there are outlets for charging, which is convenient. The food is pretty oily/buttery, and it does take a few minutes to warm up the pastries, but they're...
