Buying a used car is something that not many people I know look forward to. Late last year, I found myself in a time-sensitive situation with my beloved car--it wasn't going to pass inspection, and I finally couldn't justify dumping another exhaust system into it. Again.
I test drove 3 used cars from individuals, and 5 from dealers. You could say I'm a bit picky, especially with cars. I thought the search was over, when I signed a deal with a guy in CT, who then sold the car out from under me before I could return to take possession. Stereotypical used-car guy, right?
At the 11th hour, I found myself in Rutherford, at Faraj Motors, with a consummate pro named Mark. And I can tell you, when I look for my next used car, the search will start with Faraj.
For many reasons, it was a good experience from start to finish.
Up front: Despite knowing my situation, there.was.never.any.pressure.from.this.gentleman. I was there to see two Nissans: an MDX and a Juke. But after a BMW caught my attention, I never made it to the MDX.
Throughout the process, Mark was knowledgable and flexible. Right before I drove my new ride off the lot, a bulb failed, and they changed it on the spot. And when a larger issue arose a few weeks later, Mark was quite responsive and went the extra mile, pardoning the pun, to make sure I was satisfied with a 100% fair resolution.
It's a family run shop, with a good vibe. They've been in the game for the long haul. From what I saw, they have high standards with their choice of cars--i. e. when I got there, there were options I hadn't even thought of, and that was a pleasant surprise. Even though the lot is relatively small, there were an impressive number of cars, that they juggled with precision (The Juke was in great condition, as well, I can report--it just wasn't the car for me.)
Also, it's pretty clear their mechanical knowledge of their product very strong, as well. After my purchase, my usual shop verified everything Mark had said about what was new on the car--and that the installation was quality work.
Add that kind of confidence to their excellent treatment of customers and you get smart business all-around.
Mark's not a "used-car guy." He and his family run a First-Class Used...
Read moreEdited: I came back and updated my review because I feel like Mark genuinely wants to fix the problems with the car. To be fair, I don't believe the dealership knew there was anything wrong with the car when they sold it to me but I just wish that the issue had been fixed completely the first time I brought it back for issues and that I didn't have to keep explaining that the issues started less than a week after I purchased the car. The car didn't completely break down until 2 months later but the problem started immediately after I purchased the car and the dealership was aware of that.
tl;dr nice place if the car they sell you has no issues.
Bought the car with no hassles, felt Mark was a nice guy until less than a week after I got the car and started having issues. I called to complain that I couldn't run the air/heat without the car bucking and was told I needed a new AC button which had already been ordered. By the time the button arrived, and I had it installed the check engine light came on. Not living near Rutherford Mark told me to have the code scanned and let him know what happens. I did that, turns out it was a bad catalytic converter so after going back and forth with Mark, he finally agreed to fix it as long as I paid a $100 deductible. Fine. Finally get the car back to their lot and they replace the converter as discussed. 24 hours later my car completely breaks down and I've got to have it towed. Mark's response "you're due for an oil change". After getting the car towed to my local shop it turns out 2 coils were bad. Had the coils replaced and the mechanic explained that should have been done when the catalytic converter was replaced and is probably what caused the converter to go in the first place. I'm not a mechanic so I can only go by what the mechanics tell me, but the car started having problems the week I bought it and that's not normal. I bought the car for roughly $4k, and now I've spent $390 on repairs and have had to miss 2 days of work just to fix the issues that they should...
Read moreThey did a great job on my car. I have a 2014 BMW, in fair shape, recently went to BMW Bloomfield for servicing and was told I needed, front struts ($3600), bushings replacements ($1100) and wheel alignment ($249). I went to Farah Auto to inquire about the work and was quoted a good price of ($1800) for all three jobs which included parts and labor. Of course I was riding across the turnpike a day later and hit a huge pothole, the front right strut broke the right axle causing the strut to rub up against the tire and burn the tire. I planned to get the job done at the end of the month but due to these circumstances, I was able to bring the car in the next day and they fixed in one day. Not to mention, I looked all over to find someone who could assist me with trying to fix my car radio, as it went out about 1.5 years ago and no one could find the parts and BMW wanted to charge me ($250) to diagnosis it and then said it would cost me about ($3000) to replace. Farah auto found the radio, replaced and reprogrammed it in one day for the price of ($1200). I have no idea how they get parts in a prompt manner because they found a tail light for me at a reasonable price quickly too. They even offered me a loaner when they had the keep the car for a couple of days to get all work done. I really appreciate the work done and at a reasonable price. It would have cost me about $10K to fix everything when they completed the job for $4K and in a timely manner. I would highly recommend if you have a BMW that needs fixing. I normally always take my car to BMW Bloomfield as I trusted no outside source but Farah did a good job, therefore I would go back if the dealership will cost...
