Substance Salon & Barberspa — Attraction in Rutherford

I had an extremely poor experience at this salon . Time wasted and what I believe had to be racism from the owners girl friend wife what ever she may be. I had come to this salon twice and trained and had a great experience. The day I was to do a demo . I was told I did not need to bring any tools the salon had everything. The day came for me to do the demo and the owner came in late and was very kind . I was told he had another unexpected meeting behind him was the girlfriend who walked up to me with the most nastiest look and picked up clean towels I had jus put out for demo like she was cleaning behind me which was weird. The nice associate who had told me I was a great fit came back out worried . I asked her if everything was ok she said yes I will just need to reschedule you for a later time. Which was totally disrespectful towards my time and money I had already spent to be there . She didn’t call me back but when I called her back she said I will get back to you with time. Two days before the day we planned to reschedule. She did not answer my call but sent me a text saying we want be using you we will continue with our search. Which left me very confused because I was jus told I was a great fit and the owner didn’t get to personally witness my performance yet so what was I being judged off of? Other then obviously the rude person who was with the owner that day. If she is a wife or girlfriend. She is rude . And judgemental and may be racist and treat...

The salon itself is very nice inside. However my experience was not great. My regular salon and stylist has been booked up for a long time so I was looking for a new salon to get my hair colored and thought I would give substance a try since I live so close by. I called to book a full foil and when I booked there was no mention to me that everything is a la cart. So when I showed up to my appointment and my stylist gabby was starting my color she made mention a blow dry was not going to be part of the service. I asked if I could add the blow out and she said she didn’t have time. However I never added a glaze service when I booked but they added that without asking me (additional $46 charge and extra 25 mins added to my service time) so after 4 hours at the salon I left with wet hair. Had to walk home in the winter with wet hair and feeling worse then when I walked in. I go to the salon to leave feeling prettier but left feeling frumpy with my hair all tangled and wet and the color was nothing like the picture I showed. I don’t expect to spend $270 (this includes tip) to have to go home and blow out and style my own hair - not sure why any salon would book a service with no dry included for all the years I’ve been getting my hair done I’ve never had this happen. I usually have a great experience there. HOWEVER, I booked them for my wedding to do my hair, my mother's hair, and my bridesmaids and flower girl. I was NOT impressed at all, and the more I look at my pictures, the more disappointed I am, especially for how much money we paid. It's to the point where I may never go back. By the end of the CEREMONY, my hair was already falling apart! That is unacceptable! My hair was basically struggling to stay up (I had a low updo). My mother's hair was frizzy and did not last at all. Her hair was frizzy from the day before, so my mom expected her to blow dry it out a bit before curling (she has curly hair). But nope, she just curled it and barely sprayed hair spray (it was a weak hair spray at that). Her hair was so frizzy! Same for my other bridesmaids! A lot more curling could have been done and hairspray could have been used. And my flower girl's hair was terrible as well. None of the hair styles lasted. Again, unacceptable. I did not expect this, especially from this salon. I trusted them (or the stylist, Kris) to do a phenomenal job being that it was my wedding. And we are all extremely disappointed.
