Gallows Hill Studios is an artist's dream. I've rented studio spaces across the North Shore, sometimes as part of collective and sometimes solo, but this is by far the best situation I've ever experienced.
When I initially reached out to Jim (after fully completing my application) he responded quickly and was so great about meeting me at a time convenient for me (most of us are working full time jobs outside the studio) so that I could see the space. Even though it wasn't fully built out when I toured - I was ready to sign right up! The tall ceilings, light filled rooms, and community of artists were just what I was looking for.
Jim is the real deal, an artist, advocate, and committed to community both within and outside of Gallows Hill Studios.
The spaces are incredible. Both the 3rd and 4th floors are filled with respectful and creative artists and I've felt nothing but support and encouragement since arriving a couple of months ago.
Building a community within the studios means we connect with each other, meeting regularly to share info about our work and potential opportunities. I'm looking forward to seeing how these conversations can help me (and my artwork) move forward. Thanks...
Read moreThis place is incredible! The actual studio space itself is a refurbished mill space with high ceilings and a large central open area along which the artist studio spaces are located.
There is tons of natural lighting, but the landlord has installed ample indoor lighting too. There’s a common kitchen and clean bathrooms. Parking for artist tenants is ample and off street. There’s a freight elevator that is available for use by the resident artists to get larger items up to their studio spaces on the third and fourth floors. Once a month, the landlord hosts a community gathering for the resident artists to all come together and hang out and socialize and also plan events like open houses, live music performances, classes, and more. The current artists in residence are so varied and talented and friendly. They have photographers, glass-workers, puppeteers, oil and acrylic artists, clothing designers, videographers, and game designers. The creative energy is amazing. The Gallows Hill Studios is a remarkable artist space, unique in Salem, and I can’t...
Read moreGallows Hill Artists Studios are not just beautiful, sunlit rooms for artists to work. This is a wonderful community of highly talented and creative people. Jim Bostick, a well-known artist himself, has fostered this community and is an active supporter of the arts. He worked to bring new studio spaces to the 4th floor so that more artists could be a part of Gallows Hill Studios and have their own space to create.
As a working artist, having my space at Gallows Hill is absolutely invaluable to what I do. Huge windows, brilliant light, high ceilings and fresh walls to display my work, opportunities to connect and collaborate with others and many friendly artist neighbors- what more could an...
