Wow what a great venue. Saw this great string quartet show which housed the history of where the string quartet came. It started out with Haydn / Mozart and went on to the Beatles to perhaps a few days ago when Lipke arranged a number for us to hear. This was all with talented musicians. A specific shout out to the Velvet Underground and Nico was great to hear.
Philadelphia based composer Andrew Lipke* will join forces with a quartet from the Salina Symphony including Music Director and Conductor Yaniv Segal, Denise Blehm Concertmaster, Melanie Mann, Principal Viola and Dena Berquist, Principal Cello. "Some time ago I had the pleasure to attend a presentation by Andrew Lipke, about the history of the string quartet and about how the string quartet has impacted, influenced, and synthesized with Rock and Roll. "Rock and Roll and The String Quartet" is a great concept and is one of the best presentations I have seen in years. It is a must see for music lovers all over the country." - Dirk Brossé, Music Director of the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia *Stiefel concert-goers might recognize Andrew Lipke who played with Get the Led Out the first four times they played...
Read moreWhat a gem! The 1930's movie house is stunning with beautiful chandeliers, and painted ceilings. The Salina Symphony was fantastic! Combined with the Cirque performers, it was a lovely evening. Alcohol is available and home made treats by the Youth orchestra. Delicious and for a good cause. We had dinner at Martinella's right across the street. With the improvements in parking in the last few years, we were able to get an easy walking spot. Be sure to make reservations for dinner; we got the last one and saw people get turned away. I did pay quite a bit to a 3rd party to secure my tickets. I don't think I will do that again, but the date was important to me and it was a last minute decision. The first 3rd party vendor I looked into would have charged me an extra $300....be very careful when using...
Read moreThis 1200-seat theatre feels very intimate. Despite sitting 3 rows from the back of the balcony, we could still see facial expressions on stage, and the sound was great. View of the stage appeared to be excellent from every seat. Staff was very friendly and low-key. It's easy to find.
The building isn't as fancy as some of the Orpheum theatres that I've visited. There's only one restroom per gender and one working drinking fountain. Legroom for balcony seats was barely adequate for 6'2". Parking is scattered throughout the area in many small surface lots, although we had no trouble finding a space 30 minutes before the show.
I'd definitely see a show...
