Do you like food? Do you like magical dining experiences? Well, do I have a restaurant for YOU! From the moment you walk in the door, you will be taken aback by the amazing atmosphere. It's like a warm, fancy hug. It's a hug you WANT, believe me. Everything about this place is exquisite. The music, the lighting, the tables, the aromas... it's all too good to be true but it IS true and YOU JUST GOT STARTED. Once you are greeted and shown to your seat, sit back and wait to be assisted by THE BEST staff you could ever imagine. They're warm, they're friendly, they're attentive, they're the top of the tops!! And if Vaughn drops by your table you'll be floating for the rest of the day-- trust me. Now, on to what you REALLY want to know about: the food and the drinks. BUCKLE YOUR SEATBELTS. They have the best old-fashioned I've ever tasted and their blackberry habanero mojito made me close my eyes and take a deep breath. (Don't tell my husband.) As far as their food goes, I've never had an item be anything less than stellar but their poke nachos HAVE MY HEART. I might even name my firstborn after them. I can't say enough about them but I have a bit of a waterfall situation going on in my mouth right now, just thinking about the last time I had them. The sushi-- amazing! The entrees-- amazing! The desserts-- don't even get me started! Bottom line: GO TO BAROLO GRILLE AND TASTE FOR YOURSELF!! You won't regret it! (Tell them Kate McConnell sent you and you'll at least...
Read moreTo say that the Barolo Grille is the best restaurant in Salina is an understatement. The Barolo operates on the same level of a Michelin Star restaurant in the heart of NYC.
The venue is beautifully decorated and nails the upscale bistro atmosphere. The Front Of House staff is exceptionally knowledgeable which is a testament to the dedication to providing the most enjoyable dining experience possible.
I've been a few times now and as far as the food goes there are areas of improvement. On my last visit i had the Seared Duck which i actually found to be a bit on the tougher side of tender while the flavor was out of this world.
Prices are high, and they honestly should be. I could see a lot of people in the area not enjoying the Barolo because of the higher expense compared to most food establishments in the area, but i personally do not have a problem with it because of the level they are operating at. If this restaurant was in a major city such as NYC, LA, Vegas or Miami i would expect to pay at least $50 for any of the entrees I've gotten here.
I truthfully believe the Barolo is the best chance that Salina, KS has at a Michelin Star rated restaurant that still feels like a small town,...
Read moreBarolo's is the restaurant Ya Ya's pretends to be. By that I mean Barolo has an actual, experienced chef. Darrel Truitt, according to LinkedIn, spent the last 17 years at Barolo Grille in Denver. He is half owner of Barolo in Salina. Before Denver he was at the Renaissance Cafe in Assaria, where they are still coasting on the reputation Truitt built by 2004. At Barolo his food is very, very good. I had the duck and my daughter had Pasta Barola, a chicken dish. Neither one of us could keep our forks out of the other's plate. The duck came with vegetables beneath, with both in good portions. The Calimari Fries before the entree were hot and tasty, served in a Jenga stack. The rolls before the meal were better used as ammunition, so really only useful in a food fight. Our waiter was often present, friendly and willing to talk but not intrusive. He was, like the duck and the pasta, exactly what we wanted. The Brown Sugar Pie and Chocolate Sorrento were a fantastic way to end the meal. Also, they have an extensive wine rack, but we had beer, so there's that. I give them 4 7/8 stars, with a 0.125 deduction from the Russian judge for not sticking the rolls. That easily...
